MP: Why is Kg Baru land acquisition proceeding despite minister's promise?
Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad has questioned why the acquisition of land in Kampung Baru is going forward despite a promise from Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim to further engage with developers and landowners.
He said Shahidan had made such a promise during a debate on the Kampung Baru land acquisition in the parliamentary special chambers on Dec 13 last year.
“In his answer during the debates, the federal territories minister stated clearly that he would hold a meeting between the developer and the landowners to resolve any issues related to the land acquisition.
“Unfortunately until today, I have been contacted by various landowners informing me that there has not been any meeting arranged as promised by the minister,” Khalid (above) said in a statement today.
On the contrary, he said, the landowners have been contacted by the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office for a second meeting on Jan 19 to finalise the acquisition process.
“How can this happen after the minister had promised to postpone all processes of land acquisition and to hold a meeting between the developer and the landowners?” Khalid asked.
The former federal territories minister said that the landowners are in the dark and Shahidan needs to take responsibility for his promise.
Khalid had previously accused his successor Annuar Musa of siding too much with the developers over the landowners.
