Confirmed: Zahid’s letter on Umno’s ties with PPBM
PPBM says its political bureau discussed the contents of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s letter to Muhyiddin Yassin last night.
PETALING JAYA: PPBM has confirmed that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi sent a letter to Muhyiddin Yassin informing the prime minister on the party’s stance with PPBM.
In a statement, PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the PPBM political bureau discussed the contents of the letter last night.
Zahid’s letter, which came after an Umno Supreme Council meeting at Janda Baik, Pahang, declared that Umno would not cooperate with PPBM in the next general election and that the party would only work with the government until Parliament was dissolved.
“The PPBM political bureau made a decision that the PPBM Supreme Council will decide on its stand today,” said Hamzah.
He said PPBM will discuss its stance with its Perikatan Nasional allies PAS, STAR, SAPP and Gerakan.
Yesterday, former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa urged Zahid to confirm if he had sent a letter to Muhyiddin on the party’s stance with PPBM.
Annuar, the federal territories minister, said Umno members were also questioning the rationale behind the decision, especially when the date for GE15 has not been set.
Previously, 147 of the 191 Umno divisions had called for the party to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM.
The Umno Supreme Council had said it would finalise its decision on the party’s stance on its ties with PPBM at its AGM, set for March 27 and 28.
