US-Iran ceasefire deal a ‘nightmare scenario’ for Israel’s PM Netanyahu

A ceasefire between the US and Iran would amount to “a strategic disaster” for the Israeli leader, says Mairav Zonszein, a senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, with the war achieving neither “regime change” nor the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“Netanyahu cannot talk about a victory in Iran,” Zonszein told Al Jazeera. “He can talk about the erosion of certain capabilities, but those have a limited timeline.”

According to Zonszein, Trump expected a different outcome from the war and must now manage the fallout during global economic pressures.

In fact, a deal between the US and Iran to end the war would be “almost a nightmare scenario for Netanyahu”, she said.

Five killed in Israeli drone strike on al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza

Five people have been killed in an Israeli drone strike on the al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

Local media reports suggest the attack targeted Palestinians who confronted Israeli-backed militias operating in the eastern part of the camp.

The besieged enclave has been devastated by more than two years of Israel’s genocidal war, which killed more than 72,500 Palestinians. More than 800 people have been killed since a “ceasefire” took hold in October 2025.

Israeli army mobilises reserves to intensify Lebanon attacks

The Israeli army has begun mobilising troops with the aim of intensifying its ground assault on Lebanon, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reports.

“The army has requested that soldiers who were discharged in recent days report for reserve duty immediately,” it said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday he authorized more intensive strikes targeting Hezbollah across Lebanon. Hezbollah is attacking Israeli troops in southern Lebanon and northern Israeli towns, and has vowed to continue fighting until Israel stops its daily air strikes and withdraws its troops from the country.
