A key prosecution witness in the corruption trial involving former finance minister Lim Guan Eng was attacked by several assailants earlier today at his home near Petaling Jaya.

Sources close to the trial told Malaysiakini that the victim was verbally threatened before being physically attacked.

When contacted, lead prosecutor Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin confirmed the incident and said his team is awaiting instructions from MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki on the next course of action, including the possibility of seeking court protection for the victim.

He also said the matter will be raised at the next court proceeding on Aug 19.

When contacted, Petaling Jaya district police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar confirmed receiving a report on the matter.

“Investigations are ongoing at the location. We will issue a press statement once completed,” he said.

The New Straits Times reported that there were 10 assailants, who had tied up two security guards before entering the house.

“The attackers also warned him to just stay at home and not become a hero,” NST added.

The victim sustained multiple injuries to his face and hand.

Lim’s trial

Lim is on trial over four corruption charges involving the planned construction of Penang’s undersea tunnel and paired roads project connecting the island to the mainland.

He is accused of abusing his power as the then-Penang chief minister for the first charge to obtain RM3.3 million in monetary gratification as an inducement to appoint Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd to implement the project worth RM6,341,383,702.

The Bagan MP allegedly committed the offence at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office between January 2011 and August 2017.

On the second charge, Lim was alleged to have asked the company’s former director, Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli, for 10 percent of profits as a reward for helping his company secure the project.

He purportedly committed the offence at The Gardens Hotel, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, in Kuala Lumpur, between 12.30am and 2am in March 2011.

He also faces two counts of dishonestly disposing of two plots of land belonging to the Penang government in Bandar Tanjong Pinang, worth RM208 million, to the tunnel project’s developer.

This allegedly took place at the State Land and Mines Office in Komtar on Feb 17, 2015, and March 22, 2017.

Highly likely a false flag ops. LGE went to prison for a Malay girl - do we expect such a man to threaten a witness to a dodgy case?
