MELAKA: Police have arrested a primary school headmaster alleged of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male pupil.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 58-year-old suspect, who hails from Segamat, Johor, was detained at 9pm on Friday (Aug 8).
He said the suspect is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
DCP Dzulkhairi said the suspect tested negative for drugs and was released on police bail on Saturday (Aug 9).
He said the victim, in the report, claimed that the suspect touched his private parts, witnessed by another student.
The victim, accompanied by his mother, had lodged a report on Aug 8 at the Melaka Tengah police station.
He alleged that the suspect had molested him and uttered "I love you" to him on separate occasions.
According to police sources, the Year Six pupil from Bukit Baru here initially kept silent out of fear over the first incident in June, where the suspect allegedly caressed the boy's back inappropriately in the headmaster's office.
Investigations revealed the most recent incident occurred in the school toilet at about 8am on July 29.
