Human skeletal remains were discovered on the first floor of a two-storey timber house in Jalan Sungai Nibong.
The remains are suspected to belong to the youngest son of Wah Keng Jooi, a former assemblyperson for Pasir Bedamar.
Wah, who was with MCA, had served as a lawmaker between 1959 and 1964.
The New Straits Times reported today that the grim discovery was made after the victim's 78-year-old elder brother arrived at the property at 11am on Saturday morning to visit his 75-year-old sibling, when he detected a foul odour.
Hilir Perak district police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin confirmed that the elder brother lodged a police report at 2:24pm the same day, as he was unable to access the upper floor due to the rotting wooden stairs.
"A team from the district police, with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department, went to the location and conducted an inspection.
"Initial investigations found a human skull and skeleton alongside the victim's pet dog and several personal belongings on the upper floor of the house," he added.
Bakri reportedly said that the victim had been living alone in his family's ancestral home.
"The victim's remains have been sent to the forensic department at Teluk Intan Hospital for a post-mortem," Bakri said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
