Ex-prime minister says his security team “found a listening device in the thunderbox” after the Israeli PM visited.

LONDON — Boris Johnson claimed he found a listening device in his personal bathroom at the British Foreign Office after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used it.
The former prime minister alleged that his security team found bugging devices in the toilets after Netanyahu had used the facilities. The pair met in 2017 when Johnson was Britain’s foreign secretary.
The claim comes in Johnson’s memoir “Unleashed” which is released on Oct.10. Extracts were shared with the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
“Thither Bibi repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox,” Johnson writes as he recalls a meeting.
The Telegraph pressed the ex-PM on whether he could disclose more details about what happened, although Johnson told them: “I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book.”
The Israeli Embassy in London was approached for comment.
POLITICO reported in 2019 that the U.S. government believed Israel was responsible for planting cellphone surveillance devices near the White House and other sensitive locations around Washington, D.C. The devices were designed to fool cellphones into giving them their locations and identity information.
Johnson’s memoir has raised eyebrows in London even before its release.
The ex-prime minister, who was ousted from office by his own party in 2022, has disclosed details about Queen Elizabeth II’s health in her final year and accused French President Emmanuel Macron of trying to give the U.K. a “punishment beating” for leaving the EU.

Former-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed in his book Unleashed that he discovered a bugging device, used for listening in on private conversations, in his personal bathroom at the Foreign Office after he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2017.
Johnson claimed that his security team found the device after Netanyahu had used the bathroom.
“...It may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox (a slang term for bathroom),” Johnson wrote in his book.
When asked for further details by the Telegraph, Johnson responded “I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book.”
The Prime Minister’s Office has not yet responded to Johnson’s claims.

Israeli spyware and accusations
Israel was accused of planting listening devices around the same time in the White House, the Telegraph reported.
Israel has also been accused of spying on the ICC for decades, according to accusations made by anonymous officials to the Guardian in May.
According to the report, Israeli intelligence intercepted the phone calls. Messages, emails and documents of ICC officials including Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan and his predecessor Fatou Bensouda. This intelligence allegedly provided Benjamin Netanyahu with advanced knowledge of the ICC’s plans.
In 2022, Johnson was reportedly informed that his office in No.10 Downing Street had targeted with “multiple” suspected infections using Pegasus, an Israeli spyware software which turns a phone into a remote listening device, according to the Guardian.
While Pegasus is Israeli software, the Guardian cited a report claiming that the United Arab Emirates had been behind the incidents.
In a statement, Citizen Lab, the authors of the report said, “We confirm that in 2020 and 2021 we observed and notified the government of the United Kingdom of multiple suspected instances of Pegasus spyware infections within official UK networks. These included: the prime minister’s office (10 Downing Street) [and] the Foreign and Commonwealth Office …
“The suspected infections relating to the FCO were associated with Pegasus operators that we link to the UAE, India, Cyprus and Jordan. The suspected infection at the UK prime minister’s office was associated with a Pegasus operator we link to the UAE.”
When think a bit more... and asking, in the "modern" sense or when a kind of formal power structure is present? Which was older and has a cloaked sinister streak to it, British Intelligence or M0$$4d? A sort of genteel gentleman odour to it? Who is actually covering whose ass in this suddenly popped up story? ReplyDelete🇺🇸🇬🇧🇲🇺Britain has renounced sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. These are strategically important islands that are home to the key American military base in the region, Diego Garcia. Among other things, long-range bombers are based here, which were previously actively used during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Now, after decades of negotiations, the islands are being handed over to Mauritius, an African island nation.
In Britain, the opposition Conservative Party has already criticised Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer for this, saying that Mauritius is an ally of China.
However, formally, little will change for the US and British military presence in the region: instead of directly owning Diego Garcia, the British leased it for 99 years. That is, the military base located on this atoll, including the airfield, will continue to function. At the same time, if the Mauritian government for some reason takes a strictly anti-American and anti-British position, it may try to reverse the agreements on the base.
The base is of strategic importance because the island is located in the center of the Indian Ocean and allows control of important sea routes at the intersection of the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
To make room for the construction of this base, the British and Americans resettled thousands of Chagossians in the middle of the last century. Now they will be resettled back.
In general, the dispute between Mauritius and Britain over this archipelago has been going on since the 60s. Mauritius accused London of colonial seizure of the islands. Britain claimed that they bought them for three million pounds.
In February 2019, the International Court of Justice ordered the UK to hand over control of the Chagos Archipelago to the state of Mauritius and “complete the decolonisation of the territory, taking into account the exercise of the right of the inhabitants to self-determination,” declaring the incorporation of the islands into British possession in 1965 illegal.
