‘I came very close to death’
Doaa Shaheen, a survivor of the recent Israeli attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp that killed at least 20 people, told Al Jazeera that the attack took place just after midnight on Sunday morning, without any warning.
“We saw a red light flash and everything collapsed on our head. Everyone at home – my sister, grandmother and mother – were buried under the rubble of a multistorey building,” she said.
“Before that, we had been displaced on a number of occasions, including to Rafah. Then we received threats in Rafah, before settling at my uncle’s home. When we were buried under the debris, I came very close to death. Under the rubble, my sister was crying and I could not help her – she was totally helpless.
“I remained under the rubble for four hours as I heard footsteps on top, trying to pull us out and I kept screaming and crying. I was almost breathless with pieces of cement and dust on my mouth and face. I was checking everyone to understand who was alive or dead while telling people outside that I was still alive.
“Finally, they managed to remove some of the concrete and they pulled me halfway through. Residents and civil defence teams asked me if there were more survivors and I said no. Finally, they pulled me out.”

Israel’s army destroyed 300 homes in Jabalia: Gaza’s civil defence
The Israeli forces have destroyed 300 homes in Jabalia in northern Gaza since the beginning of its operation in the city earlier this month.
A statement on Telegram said dozens of people have been killed in Israeli attacks and many others are still under the rubble.
“The occupation fires shells towards al-Awda Hospital in the Tel al-Zaatar area in Jabalia,” it said.
“Kamal Adwan Hospital will be out of service in light of the occupation’s threats and targets,” the statement added.
