MOSCOW, March 23 — Armed men burst into the Crocus City Hall near Moscow on Friday, killing at least 93 people and injuring many dozens more in the deadliest attack in Russia since the 2004 Beslan school siege.
What do we know about the attack?
The attack
The men, armed with Kalashnikov automatic weapons, arrived at the Crocus City Hall at around 7:40pm (1640 GMT) in a minivan. Russian media said there were up to five men.
Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov informed President Vladimir Putin that there were four attackers, the Kremlin said.
They began shooting civilians at point-blank range. They shot people through the glass doors near the entrance turnstiles to the venue, witnesses said, then moved on towards the concert hall itself.
Videos showed the men shooting screaming civilians with automatic weapons. Bodies were then seen motionless.
As people took their seats for a concert by Soviet-era rock group “Picnic”, shooting could be heard inside the 6,200-seat hall where all the tickets had been sold out. The group had been planning to perform their new hit Afraid of Nothing.
The attackers were shown on videos from the scene methodically shooting at concertgoers as people rushed for the exits.
The men then set fire to the concert hall, pouring a liquid on the curtains and chairs before igniting it.
Reuters video showed flames leaping above the hall and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky as the blue lights of hundreds of emergency vehicles flashed across the night.
The fire, which spread across nearly 13,000 square metres took hours to contain. The roof collapsed.
Death toll
Russia’s investigative committee said on Saturday the death toll was 93.
Some sources said 145 people were injured. The Moscow Region said 121 people had been wounded. Earlier it had said 60 of the injured were in a critical condition.
Responsibility
Islamic State, the militant group that once sought control over swathes of Iraq and Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack, the group’s Amaq agency said on Telegram.
“Islamic State fighters attacked a large gathering of Christians in the city of Krasnogorsk on the outskirts of the Russian capital, Moscow, killing and wounding hundreds and causing great destruction to the place before they withdrew to their bases safely,” the statement said.
The United States has intelligence confirming Islamic State’s claim of responsibility for a deadly shooting at a concert near Moscow, two US officials said on Friday.
The officials said the United States had warned Russia in recent weeks about the possibility of an attack — a move they said prompted the US embassy in Moscow to issue a warning to Americans.
Two weeks ago the US embassy in Russia warned that “extremists” had imminent plans for an attack in Moscow.
Hours before the embassy warning, the Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had foiled an attack on a Moscow synagogue by Islamic State’s affiliate in Afghanistan, which is known as ISIS-Khorasan or ISIS-K and seeks a caliphate across Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Iran.
“We did warn the Russians appropriately,” one of the US officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The attackers
Russian media said there were five men. Reuters was unable to confirm just how many there were.
Russian investigators showed pictures from inside the hall showing an automatic weapon, vests with multiple spare magazines and bags of spent bullet casings that had been collected from the scene.
A grainy picture was published by some Russian media of two of the alleged attackers in a white car.
The FSB said 11 people had been detained, including all four of the attackers.
Russian lawmaker Alexander Khinshtein, a former journalist, said that the white Renault used by the suspects was found in a village in the Bryansk region, about 340km (210 miles) southwest of Moscow.
“One terrorist was detained on the spot, the rest fled into the forest,” Khinshtein said.
He said a pistol, a Kalashnikov magazine and passports of Tajik citizens were found in the car. Reuters was unable to verify that information. — Reuters

A week before the terrorist attack in Crocus, a US special forces plane visited Kazakhstan and Tajikistan
An MJ-130 from the 9th Special Purpose Squadron flew between Tbilisi and Almaty.
An S-17 was also spotted returning to Tajikistan.

I am originally from Syria and have watched hundreds of ISIS footage, closely monitoring their attacking patterns. After analyzing the available footage of the Moscow terrorist attack, I have drawn the following observation:
1- The attackers were trained in shooting, but they were not professional killers. They (thankfully) failed to hit some easy targets in the mall.
2- The assault was carefully orchestrated, complete with an exit strategy. It appears to be more than just a solo attack, possibly connected to foreign intelligence.
3- Although the individuals responsible for the attack may be Muslims, it is important to note that they are not necessarily affiliated with ISIS. I have observed numerous attacks conducted by ISIS in Syria, and typically, the terrorists strive for "martyrdom" and often resort to wearing suicide vests when facing capture. This particular type of suicide mission is referred to as "إنغماسي" in Arabic.
4- On March 7, 2024, the US embassy in Moscow released a security advisory, stating that it "is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours."
The security alert reveals that US intelligence was aware of the plot and anticipated the imminent terrorist attack. The US Embassy refrained from making speculations and instead referred to the plans as "imminent."
Who is responsible for the attack? Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden's top foreign policy adviser, travelled to Kiev on 20 March 2024 and reportedly urged Ukraine against targeting Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure.
Did Jake Sullivan caution Ukraine about potential attacks similar to the recent one in Moscow? Over the past few months, Ukrainian intelligence orchestrated two successful assassination attempts in Russia. One of these attempts targeted Alexander Dugin, but tragically, his daughter lost her life due to a bomb planted beneath their car.
Ukraine may not be responsible for the attack, but if Kiev authorities are indeed behind it, it would be a very foolish decision. The fact that major Western media outlets keep blaming ISIS without any concrete evidence from detained terrorists only adds to the suspicion.
In my personal experience, I have yet to encounter a captured ISIS terrorist who doesn't openly admit their affiliation with the terror organization. This situation could potentially set a new standard. However, it's also possible that it may not.

Of course Israel was behind the attacks in Moscow.

In the book of Amos, the prophet warns Israel of a coming "Day of the Lord" where they will face punishment for their disobedience (Amos 5:18-20).
Similarly, the prophet Zephaniah uses the term to describe a day of wrath and distress that will come upon Jerusalem (Zephaniah 1:14-18).
Just like how God used wicked, pagan nations like Assyria and Rome to bring judgement on Israel, so too will the future great and terrible day of the Lord come when God will deliver Jerusalem into the hands of her enemies for her harlotry.

All throughout scripture God's judgment often serves to purify His people, leading to the salvation of a faithful remnant.

In case you're wondering why "it took so long" to apprehend terrorists.
This is important to understand:
The secret services found the terrorists either while they were still in Moscow or in the Moscow region, and tracked the car to figure out where they were going and whether they would meet with anyone.
At the same time, their phones were being listened to, which led to seven more detainees in this case.
Then, in the wee hours of morning, when the terrorists were already tired and the information had largely been gathered, the arrest took place so as not to "spoil their skin and take them alive for interrogation."

The west is going to call down a storm they can't handle if this continues. The west does not understand that it is not Putin that is the monster, the wrath, it is Putin that holds it back.
I cannot make people in the west understand that Putin is seen as soft by Russians, he is a good leader, one in a lifetime but he is calm, collected and keeps many in Russia at bay. Many Russians want to defend their home in a much more active way. The west should pray that Putin does not lose patience or even worse, that the Russians as a whole decide Putin isn't doing enough to protect Russia because sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.
If you'd like to understand what a fully awake and angry Russia is like, just ask Germany or France, two empires that came to an end when they pushed against Russia.
