Vintage Scott’s Emulsion advert stirs horrific memories among netizens instead of nostalgia
IT is a very common sight in many local households but one that seemingly brings back many nasty memories to many people especially during their childhood days.
This seems to be the case judging from the many comments that accompanied a video shared on the Malaysian Education Info (and Homeschooling too) Facebook forum. The video featured a vintage TV commercial of Scott Emulsion’s Cod Liver Oil and elicited a host of funny responses and more than a few unhappy memories.
Here is a small sample:
Many recalled the strong aftertaste, which made the whole experience so much more unpleasant.
Given that Malaysians love all sorts of pungent foods such as durian, budu and belacan, it is quite funny to see this elixir eliciting such negative responses.
Some netizens painted a picture of a childhood filled with torment and torture because of this vile liquid.
There were a few detractors but they were definitely in the minority.
Some appear to be still tormented by the memories.
As the popular adage goes, ‘if it tastes bad, it must be good for you’ and judging from the many comments about its repulsive taste, it can certainly be argued that this health supplement is very good for you. – Feb 15, 2024
