Photos: UNRWA truck hit by Israeli navy was delivering food to northern Gaza
Earlier, we reported that an UNRWA truck carrying food supplies was hit by Israel’s navy. The truck was waiting to move into northern Gaza, where people are facing extreme food shortages.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has also shared a video showing the destruction of one of its health clinics in the north of Gaza.
“Safe and sustainable humanitarian access is urgently needed everywhere, including to the north of Gaza,” UNRWA said in a post on X.
In January, 56 percent of humanitarian aid missions planned for northern Gaza – 34 out of 61 planned missions – were denied access by Israeli authorities, the UN’s humanitarian agency OCHA says.
Earlier this week, Philippe Lazzarini the head of UNRWA, which also delivers services to Palestinian refugees in neighbouring countries, questioned whether the agency was “paying the price” for speaking out, as several of its largest donors withhold funding over allegations made by Israel that have yet to be independently investigated.
“Are we paying the price for having been vocal in drawing attention about the plight of people in Gaza, of this humanitarian disaster, unfolding on our watch?” Lazzarini was quoted as saying by FT.
