“Sanusi is like a character from The Flinstones,” says Amanah sec-gen
AMANAH secretary-general Faiz Fadzil has described Kedah Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as a cartoon character from The Flintstones who doesn’t understand Islam in the constitution.
“Sanusi is like the cartoon, The Flintstones who lived in the Stone Age. He does not understand the position of Islamic law in our constitution,” Harapan Daily quoted Faiz as saying in response to Sanusi’s statement that some people are out there to create a clash with Shariah law in Malaysia.
“No one is against the Islamic law here. In fact, Malaysia is one of the few countries that has clear provisions of Islamic law in the Federal Constitution.”
Yesterday (Feb 16), the Kedah MB hinted that the clash between civil and Shariah law is happening now because there are groups that are ‘bred’ to clash with those who are trained in the Islamic legal system.
He stated that the ‘colonisers’ returned to Malaysia in 1957, which is a year before the country’s independence. He also added that in the 1960s there were more white people around, and that day by day, the ‘legal’ system in Malaysia was changing.
Sanusi was commenting on the Federal Court judgement that ruled that 16 provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Enactments (I) 2001 were unconstitutional.
Moreover, the judgement was made in light of a case filed by lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman against the Kelantan state government.
“The colonists returned in 1957. In the 1960s there were more white people. Our system is changing day by day. Some are perfectly trained in the Islamic legal system. There is a centre, an institute of Islamic law.
“Everything has developed. They (Shariah laws) are also growing. Then the clash happened. The livestock has produced new seeds,” Sanusi further added.
“There are plans, continuous efforts to change (legal) interpretations and positions of both sets of laws.” – Feb 17, 2024
