MACC questions Kedah MB on alleged football association graft

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today faced three hours of questioning at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

The Kedah Football Association (KFA) president is believed to have been questioned regarding alleged corruption in the state football club.

“About three hours… He (Sanusi) arrived at 8.30am,” MACC senior investigation director Hishamuddin Hashim told Sinar Harian.

Last Saturday, Bernama reported that KFA vice-president Muhammad Radhi Mat Din said the MACC remanded the association’s CEO Zulkifli Che Haron, along with three other individuals.

The graftbuster had obtained a three-day remand order for the four individuals to assist in investigating a corruption case involving over RM6 million in 2020.

Hishamuddin confirmed the detention of the four individuals, and that the case is being investigated under Section 16a(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

Kedah Football Association

According to Berita Harian, sources said the amount was believed to be a reward for assisting a company owner to secure contracts for a race circuit project as well as the management and maintenance of five water reservoirs in Kedah.

The sources indicated that MACC launched its probe based on a report by contractors who were previously promised projects in the state.

The contractors were allegedly promised a “construction and service” project in exchange for funds channelled to the football association.

“However, after these contractors channelled funds to the football association’s account, they did not receive any project as promised by the individual,” a source was quoted as saying.

The alleged broken promise then prompted the contractors to lodge a report with the MACC.

The real ‘target’

On the same day, Sanusi pledged to reveal a purported plot, claiming the arrests were an act of cruelty by certain quarters who abused government agencies.

He claimed the investigation was part of a “plot” against those arrested and that he was the real “target” of the MACC.

He also claimed KFA funded its activities via donations since its inception, but not to the point of corruption as it has no access to any projects that require approval from the federal government.

On Tuesday, Hishammuddin said MACC will summon Sanusi for questioning on the matter.
