Bersatu MP: Muhyiddin's 'U-turn' after wife’s advice upset members
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's "U-turn" in not giving up the presidency during the party's annual congress had allegedly demoralised members who wanted to see changes.
This was according to Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abu Fasal, who is one of the six Bersatu lawmakers who have so far pledged support to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
What made things worse, Syed Abu Hussin (above) claimed, was Muhyiddin made the “U-turn” after getting advice from his wife.
"What's the reason for the U-turn? This is a big decision... the party's purpose is to lead MPs to build the country’s future but the president easily made a U-turn," he said, before reading a quote from Muhyiddin's statement during the congress in November last year.
He cited the Pagoh MP saying that the "strongest power" is a wife's advice.
On Nov 25, Muhyiddin announced that he would not defend his party presidency, only to reverse the decision the following day.

"I don't blame his wife, but as a leader of a party that is facing all kinds of challenges, this is the most important decision.
“Some leaders are demoralised, (they) don't know where the party is heading," Syed Abu Hussin said at a special press conference this morning.
During his announcement about intending to remain as Bersatu’s president, Muhyiddin said: “Actually, the strongest power that I want to talk about here is not the annual congress. The biggest power (to make decisions) is none other than my wife.
“My wife was present (at the Bersatu assembly) several days ago and she remained until the end… It’s the same for today. She is my message.
“What did my wife say? Stay another term. They need you."
Syed Abu Hussin claimed the decision by several Bersatu MPs to support Anwar stemmed from alleged frustration with the PN leadership's "refusal" to negotiate on allocations for opposition lawmakers.
This was despite Anwar giving them the opportunity to do so, he added.
"Financial issues are indeed a big problem for all MPs and if the party doesn't pay attention, then who else is going to?” he asked.
Hamzah can lead Bersatu
Syed Abu Hussin added that MPs who had expressed support for Anwar had been greeted with insults, slurs, and accusations from others, including from their own families, Syed Abu Hussin alleged.
Meanwhile, he opined that Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has the potential to take over the party's leadership.

Hamzah Zainudin
"Overall, we see Larut (Hamzah) has great potential to lead Bersatu. He also has the willingness and the ability.
When asked if there were camps within the party split between supporting Muhyiddin and Hamzah for the party presidency, he acknowledged it but refused to elaborate.
"I don't want to confirm, but it exists,” he replied.
