2023 State Elections - Morning After - Kaytee's roundup

The most annoying result has been the one resurrecting the political career of arch-traitor Ass-binte. Earlier in the counting there was (alas, spurious) feedback of his impending loss, thus the final results came with an extra punch. I wonder how in heaven could voters elect such a treacherous person. But anyway, he'll be around to kacau Amirudin who ironically was his former mentee.

Another, more of a frog than a traitor as such, has been Afif. After being disqualified from Penang he scooted off to Selangor and was elected in Taman Medan last night, though only by a majority of 30 votes, yes, only thirty. He's not as bad as Ass-binte but still, his victory annoys me. Mind, Amirudin has been mulling lodging a protest against Afif's victory with the EC - hope that comes about and is not just NATO, wakakaka.

The second annoyance was not so much a win or loss as a victory for the Rocket Party was already expected in a fortress manned by DAP myrmidons, but that of Guanee winning far too easily.

His opponents Kong Cheng Ann (PN) and Teh Yee Cheu (PRM) secured by comparison to Guanee's 8996 votes a dismal 1073 and 437 respectively. I had hoped for Guanee to get a scare (wakakaka) and sweat a few drops of anxious worries, wakakaka again.

Anyway, t'was surprising that the PN candidate Kong could even marshal more than a thousand votes in a Chinese heartland - what's wrong with those thousand voters in casing their ballots for a candidate from a running dog party - perhaps old sentimental affections for Gerakan still prevail there in Air Putih as they do in Penang? Perhaps Kong is a local with a thousand family members rooting for him? wakakaka.

However, I am sad to see PRM's Teh Yee Cheu losing his deposit. Teh had been a DAP stalwart, in fact a party life member before he was (like many others, eg Prof Rama, Lee Lam Thye, Fang Yew Teng, Kua Kia Soong, the late Zul Noor) made (under internal pressure-stress) to leave the Rocket Base.

Additionally, today's Penangites seem to forget what the PRM is/was - a fave of Penangites in the 50's and early 60's, and the party of giants like Lim Kean Siew, Ooi Theam Siew, Dr Tan Chee Khoon, etc.

While I didn't expect Teh to win I had hoped he would give Guanee an e;f;f;i;n;g; scare but alas, perhaps that 'privilege' for the future, bearing in mind of course we are getting older everyday.

As for that most regrettable person, Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, President of Gerakan Party, he didn't do badly as expected, with the results for him coming out as 13,573 votes or 46.75% of the total cast. He lost only by a majority of 1889 votes. All in all, it was a respectable effort, even though he lost.

If the PAS supporters in Bayan Lepas had sincerely and fully backed him I have no doubt he would have won, but alas, sabotage (of PN's own candidate) was prevalent given the rough & rude treatment he had received earlier during the pre-election campaign, demonstrating the disregard, disdain and detestation his coalition Muslim supporters have had for him.

That humiliation of a PN component party president by a mere local PAS official earlier in the week was already an ominous indication of how he was viewed and would be treated by PAS supporters in Bayan Lepas. I actually feel sad for him, the inheritor of a proud legacy left by luminaries like Professor Syed Hussain Alatas, Dr. Tan Chee Khoon, Dr. J.B.A. Peter, Lim Chong Eu, Professor Wang Gungwu, and V. Veerapan.

(Left prominent) Dr Lim Chong Eu, (& being carried) Prof Hussain Alatas on the night of 10 May 1969 - t'was an overwhelming joy and celebrations for Gerakan Party as it swept to humongous victory, capturing Penang for which the party held for 40 years, and nearly capturing Perak, a-then almost unheard of feat for a non-UMNO party.

All in all, the elections result have been as expected though a most disappointing one, especially for Zahidi, wakakaka.

  1. Dominic is more of a Ah Khoon type Gerakan... remember Ah Khoon presenting the giant Keris to Hisap Puting ?

  2. Zahid must learn the song "Leaving on a jet plane" by John Denver.

He should start packing his bags because I don't see his place as UMNO head tenable anymore.

Once Zahid is ousted, we can say bye bye to the Unity government too.
