True meaning of PAS’ official acceptance of Annuar Musa along with 3k new members
FORMER UMNO warlord and supreme council member Tan Sri Annuar Musa has officially become a PAS member last night in a symbolic ceremony where he received his membership certificate in conjunction with the Ceramah Perdana Gelombang Kebangkitan Rakyat event organised by the Negri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) last night (June 10).
But if the claim by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan is valid that the former communications and multimedia minister’s application alongside more than 3,000 other applications were approved by the Central PAS working committee, then very likely UMNO will be more than 3,000 members ‘poorer’.
Whether the 3,000 lesser members – majority of whom is supposedly Annuar’s followers – can have devastating impact on UMNO’s chances of ‘bouncing back’ at the upcoming state polls is a subjective matter but suffice to mention that the former Barisan Nasional (BN) Ketereh MP had previously held few ministerial portfolios under both the BN and PN Prime Ministers.
This goes to say that Annuar can be an asset to lure more fence-sitters among UMNO grassroots who are disgruntled at the party’s leadership in light of the call to vote for DAP as part of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) solidarity measure in the looming state polls across six states.
Additionally, PN can now bank on the Muafakat Nasional president to attract into the coalition – whether to PAS, Bersatu or even Gerakan for the matter – its members which is estimated at 30,000 even though the movement is deemed to be a non-governmental organisation (NGO) rather than a political party.

For the record, Annuar has been involved in politics and fighting in UMNO for 50 years in which he won unopposed as the Ketereh UMNO Division chief for 35 years and served for two terms as Ketereh MP (2013 and 2018).
“UMNO is no longer the party that looks after the interests of the Malay race and the country; in fact since the 2013 general election (GE), it has not been the people’s choice with more than two million members having left the party,” he told a sell-out crowd in his inaugural speech as a PAS member.
“UMNO has turned into a party that looks after the interests of individuals, looks after the interests of groups and tribes and is now busy looking after and being a boot licker to DAP.”
According to Annuar, UMNO is being manipulated by its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who has destroyed the party with he himself becoming the No. 1 rebel to the struggle of Malays and Muslims in this country.
Annuar added that he will further explain the rationale of his participation in PAS and PN at the forthcoming series of public gatherings. – June 11, 2023
