Prove yourself before demanding seats, Terengganu Umno tells PKR

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu PKR must assess its own strengths before demanding that Umno make way for it in numerous seats for the upcoming state elections, says Terengganu Umno chief Ahmad Said.
Ahmad said PKR must take into account various factors, including the strength of its own machinery and grassroots as well as the number of supporters in the state.
“They must measure their own strengths (first), how many branches do they have (in Terengganu)? Tell us, who are their local political figures?” he said yesterday, according to Astro Awani.
Ahmad said, for example, Terengganu PKR had asked Umno to make way for it for the Jabi state seat, which Umno lost to PAS in the 2018 general election by a mere 55 votes.
“This is not right, would Umno supporters back this decision?”
“They (Terengganu PKR) want it all. Show your strengths first, how many branches and members do you have? We have over 20 branches in this state,” he said.
On Sunday, Bernama reported that PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad urged Barisan Nasional to take his party seriously, saying it is optimistic of winning several seats in the coming state elections.
After meeting party members in Kuala Terengganu, he said grassroots want PKR to continue to have a foothold in Terengganu.
Nik Nazmi said the party’s optimism about winning state assembly seats was based on its past track record, demographic factors as well as surveys and research.
BN holds 10 seats in the 32-member Terengganu state assembly, while PAS holds the rest.
BN and PH, which are partners in the federal unity government, are in the midst of negotiations over seats to be contested. Nik Nazmi said the negotiations are expected to be completed within a week or two.

PKR and DAP should tell UMNO the same "Proof Yourself" in Selangor and Penang respectively.
