Egg import firm admits calling Wee, but denies threatening him


Egg importer J&E Advanced Tech Sdn Bhd admitted that they called MCA president Wee Ka Siong but denied that any threats were ever made.

This comes after Wee held a press conference at Parliament yesterday and presented screenshots of the caller ID who rang him to settle the egg dispute, claiming that the caller was controversial businessperson Deepak Jaikishan.

In a statement, the company claimed that the call was only made to request the Ayer Hitam MP to retract his statements on the import of eggs from India.

“Wee used our kind gesture to claim we threatened him on the phone.

“This is not only untrue but illogical as we initiated the call to give him an opportunity to correct the lies he made with impunity in Parliament,” the company claimed.

J&E cited two claims from Wee as fabrications; that it would take four weeks for the imported eggs to reach Port Klang from Chennai Port in India and that the eggs were sold at 50 sen at wholesale price.

The company denied both allegations and attempted to sue the MP but was unable to due to Wee’s legal immunity.

“Now that he had been given this immunity letter, we are left helpless,” the company lamented.

This phone call dispute is the latest in the “egg saga”, an issue that had been ongoing for months involving Wee, Deepak, J&E and even former Gombak MP Azmin Ali.

On March 15, Wee accused Deepak of name-dropping the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during a call.

Within the same day, Deepak denied Wee’s claims, including having any relations with J&E.

The PMO had also issued a stern warning to those who misuse its name for their personal agenda, warning that action would be taken.

On Feb 22, Wee told the Dewan Rakyat that the government should resolve problems faced by local egg producers and not import eggs from India - which he said were more expensive and smaller.

J&E is the sole company that Putrajaya allowed to import eggs from India during a local supply shortage.
