KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos is not an appropriate candidate for the 15th general election (GE15), incumbent Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said.

In a letter addressed to Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, she said Jamal still has ongoing bankruptcy proceedings from her defamation suit against him in 2017 after he accused her of misappropriating RM2 million of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) funds.

“Continuing from the above, I truly believe that YB Datuk Seri Jamal is not a suitable individual to be named as a candidate to contest in GE15 because there is a possibility that he will be declared bankrupt from the bankruptcy proceedings.

“Therefore, I object to the nomination of YB Datuk Seri Jamal as a candidate to contest in GE15 and urge that any such nomination be rejected by (Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh).

“All cooperation from Tan Sri in ensuring and supporting the transparency and continuity of the GE15 process is greatly appreciated,” Kok said in the letter.

In July, the High Court ordered Jamal to pay Kok RM300,000 in compensation and RM50,000 in costs, following the outcome of a defamation suit against him.

When Jamal failed to pay up, Kok filed a bankruptcy suit against him.

Later, Jamal’s supporters raised as much as RM300,000 in a donation drive called ‘Solidarity Fund to Save Jamal’ to help pay for his damages and legal fees incurred in two separate defamation suits filed individually by Kok and her fellow Opposition MP Maria Chin Abdullah.

  1. Teresa Kok should have just let the loud mouth thug Jamal go and stand for election.

First, because I believe voters will reject him for his thuggish behaviour and second, Teresa could still have a 2nd bite of the cherry when Jamal is disqualified (if he won) for his bankruptcy (if he fails to pay up)
