Hope Ismail keeps me in Cabinet, says Zuraida
Plantation industries and commodities minister Zuraida Kamaruddin hopes to retain her post in the Cabinet.
PETALING JAYA: Plantation industries and commodities minister Zuraida Kamaruddin says she hopes to retain her post in the Cabinet as she wants to finish programmes that she has started in the ministry.
According to a Berita Harian report, the Ampang MP admitted she was hoping for good news in her upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Zuraida was appointed to her current Cabinet portfolio on Aug 27 last year while with Bersatu. She left the party to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) on May 26.
On June 8, she was named the “president designate” of the newly formed PBM.
“The prime minister has announced, the whole world already knows (about the meeting). I am hoping for good news.
“Yes, I hope to keep the minister’s post to finish the programmes that I’ve started and to stabilise the country,” she told reporters after an event in Sungai Siput today.
Last Thursday, Ismail said he would meet Zuraida this week, prior to chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting.
Following that, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin issued a statement saying that he had been in touch with Ismail to discuss the Ampang MP’s position as a Cabinet member.
Muhyiddin felt that Zuraida should be replaced as the position she now held was through Bersatu’s quota, but left the decision to the prime minister as it was his right.
Previously, PBM president Larry Sng asked Ismail to consider retaining Zuraida in her current portfolio as she had performed well in her role.
