Wisma Putra identifies ‘voices’ in leaked audio clip on UAE debacle

Wisma Putra says it will submit the findings of its internal probe to police for further investigation and action.

PETALING JAYA: Wisma Putra has identified the voices in a leaked audio clip which alleged, among others, that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was not on good terms with foreign minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

The foreign ministry said the person involved had made an admission and was assisting in an internal investigation.

“The individual admitted to recording the conversation with a so-called ‘Datin’, who was an officer of a former minister of foreign affairs before the Pakatan Harapan government or Perikatan Nasional governments came to power,” it said in a statement today.

The ministry said it would submit its findings to police for further investigation and action.

On Tuesday, the ministry lodged a police report and said it was conducting its own investigation into the audio clip, which alleged, among others, that Ismail was not on good terms with Saifuddin.

It said the two-minute 15-second clip, which had been making the rounds on social media, was “meant to create confusion”.

“The internal probe and the police report are meant to protect the interest and the image of the foreign ministry,” it said.

In the audio clip, a man was heard complaining to the “Datin” about problems within the ministry and alluded to “a growing number” of vacancies at Malaysian missions abroad.

The leaked audio clip came in the wake of reports that the Malaysian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and the consul-general in Dubai had been recalled for allegedly failing to make proper arrangements for Ismail’s visit to the UAE last month.
