PETALING JAYA: Fifty vehicles were burnt after an explosion at the Sentul district police headquarters evidence store today.

The Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department also said the blast resulted in three men suffering minor injuries before they were treated at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

A fire at the evidence store burnt 30% of the building’s structure and 80% of an open area where the 50 vehicles were parked, the department said in a statement.

It added that the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

It was previously reported that Sentul police were disposing of 1,059 boxes and 35 gunny sacks of firecrackers and fireworks of various types estimated to be worth RM4.1 million.

In a brief message to FMT, Sentul district police chief Beh Eng Lai said police followed relevant SOPs in disposing of the fireworks.

“We followed the court order strictly,” he told FMT.

  1. Bisa diAtur. This is SOP for getting rid of evidence.... no more case...
I still remember the case some 30 years ago in Penang. Police were closing in on syndicates that were able to get stolen cars re-registered with genuine formal registrations. files. There were internal Penang JPJ staff who were accomplices. In those days, JPJ was still using paper files for car registrations.

In one night , the entire Penang JPJ car registration storage was burnt down. While there were basic backup records, the paper trail evidence of which officers were complicit in getting stolen cars re-registered was completely wiped out.
While there were suspicions of who these officers were, nothing was left that could be used in Court.
    Case closed.
