Farmer arrested by cops in Chemor released on bail, says PSM

PETALING JAYA: The police have released a farmer in Perak who was arrested last night for allegedly obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duty, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) said.
“Tan Tean Chee was detained for almost three hours before the police finally released him on bail at 1.30am today,” PSM labour bureau coordinator Sivaranjani Manickam said in a statement.
Tan’s lawyer Bawani KS described his arrest as “ridiculous” and an “abuse of power” by the police and the Perak Development Corporation (PKNP).
“The police have released him, but said they may call him in today for an identity parade,” Bawani told FMT.
Last night, PSM chief Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj lodged a police report demanding the release of 60-year-old Tan who was arrested for allegedly obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duty.
Tan, who is the head of Persatuan Petani Moden Chemor, led the other farmers in trying to stop PKNP’s soil testers from entering their farm.
The issue concerns an ongoing legal battle between some 132 farmers in Chemor and a Perak government body, which saw the farmers being evicted last December to give way to a major development there.
According to Jeyakumar, last week, lawyers for PKNP had asked permission to enter the farmland (for soil testing), but the judge denied the request.
“However, yesterday morning, the soil testers escorted by policemen entered the farmland at about 9am.
“The farmers blocked them because the land issue was now in the High Court and was being tried. After three hours, the PKNP people left the site. There was no incident and no damage to property.
“Then, at about 9pm last night, a group of policemen arrested Tan at his home for alleged obstruction of duty of a public servant under the Penal Code,” he told FMT.

Time and time we see the police, instead of upholding the law, blatantly use their authority to twart justice.

It brings to mind the Indira Ghandhi case and the abduction of the pastors.
Both the PDRM and the MACC seem to serve not the law but their masters' bidding.
