Saifuddin to take on Rafizi for PKR No. 2 post
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is seen as more of a match for Rafizi Ramli in the race to become PKR deputy president.
PETALING JAYA: The battle for the No. 2 post in PKR will likely be contested by party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and vice-president Rafizi Ramli, says a source in the know.
“Farhash is unlikely to contest if Saifuddin does. He’ll help Saifuddin’s campaign,” said the source, referring to Farhash Wafa Salvador, the former aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
Farhash has been critical of Rafizi after the former Pandan MP announced his return to active politics as well as his decision to run for the PKR deputy president’s post again in this year’s party elections.
Rafizi had previously challenged then PKR deputy president Azmin Ali in 2018 but lost narrowly. A year later, he took a step back from politics, citing the need to concentrate on a start-up project.
“Saifuddin will give Rafizi a run for his money. It will be a much closer battle because Saifuddin is a party stalwart,” the source told FMT.
“He is seen as more of a match for Rafizi than Farhash.”
The post of deputy president has been vacant since Azmin was sacked from the party following his part in the Sheraton Move, which brought down the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.
PKR will hold its party elections in May.
