March 5 (Reuters) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's attempt to secure direct NATO help in the conflict between their countries was not helping talks between the two sides. read more

"Constant angry statements from Mr Zelenskiy do not increase optimism," Lavrov told reporters on Saturday.

In particular, he mentioned Zelenskiy's strong criticism of the Western military alliance on Friday for refusing to intervene in the conflict by preventing Russian missiles and warplanes using Ukrainian airspace.

"My question is: If he is so upset that NATO has not intervened on his behalf as he hoped, then he expects to resolve the conflict by involving NATO in all this, and not through talks?" Lavrov said.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he was open to talks with Lavrov, but only if they were "meaningful".

Russia invaded Ukraine by land, sea and air on Feb. 24, in what it calls a "special military operation".

Wary of being dragged into Moscow's war on its neighbour, NATO on Friday turned down Zelenskiy's appeal to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine, prompting the Ukrainian president to say that the alliance had given Russia the green light to continue its bombing campaign. read more

Russian and Ukrainian delegations from Moscow and Kyiv have held two rounds of talks, the latest on Thursday, after which they said they had agreed on the need to create humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians, but not much else.

Lavrov said Moscow was ready for a third round, but had not received new dates from the Ukrainian side, which he said was inventing pretexts to delay the process.

The Kremlin said on Friday that progress in the negotiations would depend on Kyiv's reaction to Moscow's position on how to end the war, which had been conveyed to Ukraine on Thursday.

  1. Sergei Lavrov is likely a war criminal , being the proponent of this aggressive illegal war.

Including using thermobaric weapons in built up urban areas.

I remember Lefties condemning Israel (rightly) for using White Phosphorous in urban areas, but these LEFTIE HYPOCRITES have gone silent on Russia's illegal war or even endorsing it , as NATO's fault.

    1. Mfer, where is that Russia's illegal war again Ukraine?

Or yr f*cked definition of illegal war is the launch of a special military operation against a hard-headed neighbour, who is ignoring many of a friendly reminder about the broken promise of been a neutral buffer state to counteract the NATO eastward expansion to trap Russia!

If it's NOT NATO's aggressive eastward expansion to encircle Russia that causes the Ukraine crisis, then what is in yr f*cked mind?

Wakakakakaka… mostly fart from a Yankee acolyte:

Putin's westward expansion into old EU/US circle of influence, right?

    2. Putin's own words... "the breakup of the Soviet Union was the greatest catastrophe that befell Russia in the 20th Century" ....,note, in the timeline that includes the Nazi German invasion of the USSR.

He wants the Greater Russia back...and Ukraine is the first step.... unless the price is made unbearable and unsustainable for Putin and Russia.

    3. Mfer, what's wrong in Putin referring to the dissolution of SovietUnion?

It's a heartbreaking history for a once mighty union broken up by a deranged & confused Gorbachev under the tricks of demoNcracy paraded by Bush Snr!

After the breakup, all the ex member states of SU r in total sopo disarray.

Ukraine is that typical victim with western backed oligarchs mining & raping the resources/wealth of the nation. The 3rd largest country in Europe falls hard, very hard. Such that this once mighty industrial powerhouse of SU is been dismembered into a poorest European country surviving on its fertile black earth for agricultural produces! Meanwhile the womenfolk r been human-traded as sex slaves in old EU & USofA!

Russia would have that same fate if not bcoz of Putin's strong Russko love & determination in fighting those rapacious Russian oligarchs.

Sigh… no need to enlighten a diehard demoNcratic mfer!

In both of Putin's hour long speeches, before he finally launched the special military operation into Ukraine, there were passionate pleads for the long historical Slavic fraternity amongst the Ukrainians & Russians.
Most of all, the frustrated sentiments for been tricked 5x in the promised non eastward expansion of NATO in encircling & threatening the well-being of Russia.

The old SU model has NEVER being mentioned in both of his speeches! Either it is yr fragment of our demoNcratic imagination or u have been misguided by the English translation broadcasting from CNN/BBC.

Yes, Putin wants a Great Russia - based on the Russians own terms! Not a weak Russia that's subservient to the USofA under the strings of NATO!

  2. Ukrainians are quite dumb.. They can clearly see now tht Nato is actually Nothing.. Nothing to be depended on, relied on. All the monkey sam yankees care about is nothing more than just making money by sabotaging all available r'ships btwen Eu and Russia.. That is all.

Even this war is making big money for the arms dealers. With the Ukr eco in spiral, it's almost certain, they will be in debt with US and UK. Ukraine just turned into their b**ch for futures to come. That's why Nato isn't helping much. Why have equal partners when they can have a b**ch. Hahaha
