PH must work with Perikatan, say Amanah Youth chiefs

Pakatan Harapan should work with Perikatan Nasional to contest the next general election, say several Amanah Youth leaders.

PETALING JAYA: Six Amanah Youth chiefs have called on Pakatan Harapan to work with Perikatan Nasional in contesting the next general election, following the coalition’s “humbling defeat” at the recent Johor polls.

In a joint statement, they called on PH leaders to set aside personal differences and adopt a “pragmatic” approach by working with other like-minded parties, such as Pejuang, Muda, Warisan and PN.

Such cooperation was necessary to avoid another humiliating defeat at the next national elections, they said and demanded that heads be made to roll over a series of election defeats.

Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional had contested separately at the Johor state assembly elections and suffered major losses, with PH securing 12 seats and PN 3 whereas Barisan Nasional secured 40 seats for a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.

PH had also suffered major defeats in the Melaka and Sarawak state elections late last year.

The Amanah Youth leaders also called for “formidable new leaders” to be appointed in the coalition, and an end to “conflicting self-aggrandizing desire that will hinder opposition unity”.

The six were Zulhafiz Zulkifli (Lembah Pantai); Hafizzuddin Razian (Kepong); Nur Fadhil (Bandar Tun Razak); Sheikh Khuzaifah (Bukit Bintang); Haripra Lazuardi (Batu) and Raja Haziq (Cheras).

One of the 12 seats was won by a PKR candidate contesting on the party’s own flag while DAP and Amanah candidates used the PH logo.

The six Amanah leaders lambasted the decision to use two different logos, calling it as being “utterly unacceptable”.

They also described as intolerable the lack of any serious attempt at discussing any pact with other opposition parties.

Earlier today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had called for a “big tent” approach for the opposition to contest elections. He said the opposition must face “harsh reality” and bear some responsibility for PH’s defeat in Johor.

Lim said that the lack of unity among the opposition, including the refusal to use a common logo or discuss the menteri besar candidate were among the factors the coalition lost in the March 12 polls.

kt comments:

Guanee in criticising the lack of unity among the opposition, including the refusal to use a common logo or discuss the MB candidate, or in adopting frogs, has actually eff-ed his own 'big tent' approach - which has been why I said he doesn't know what a 'big tent' approach means.

Anyway, what the 6 Amanah Youth chiefs have proposed is in reality Pakatan Harapan 1.0 or the one before GE14, except by now PN involves not only PRIBUMI Bersatu but also PAS and UMNO (the 'cabinet cluster'). Thus the (revised) proposed Pakatan Harapan will expand and also include PASS and part of UMNO.

For a start Pak Hadi has said flatly he doesn't want to work with DAP, FULL STOP! Likewise, UMNO has said same thing.

And if DAP were to agree (and it may, considering the power crazy 'inner coterie' it now has), it will lose its heartland supporters like rats deserting a sinking ship.

A bad proposal.
