Sanusi says voters will back Malay unity and will destroy PH in Melaka

PAS ELECTION Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor says voters in Melaka will back the Malay unity forces, leading to the destruction of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state election.

He said the collaboration between PAS and Barisan Nasional on the basis of ummah unification previously proved capable of defeating PH.

He is confident that the same approach can deliver similar results in Melaka.

“Our cooperation in the name of ummah unification will destroy PH. All of this will lead us into the 16th General Election (GE16) as the Federal Government-in-waiting,” he said.

The Kedah Chief Minister said that supporters of the ummah unification agenda across the country want the cooperation to continue regardless of the emblem used in the election.

Sanusi also said PAS was not afraid of using their traditional moon emblem in the upcoming Melaka state election on Nov 14, should Perikatan Nasional (PN) be barred from using its official coalition logo.

Speaking at a rally in Kota Bharu on Friday (Oct 23), the Kedah Chief Minister emphasised that using the PAS logo would sustain the broader ummah (Muslim community) unification agenda against PH.

He also referred to a court stay on PN’s status, which allows the PN coalition to remain legally active.

However, he stressed that supporters prioritise political cooperation over campaign symbols.

“The use of the PAS logo is to ensure that the ummah (Muslim community) unification agenda continues in the effort to oppose PH,” he said. — Oct 24, 2026

Old Paulians’ Ass. slams Chegu Bard for accusing school prefects of serving alcohol at reunion dinner

Old Paulians’ Ass. slams Chegu Bard for accusing school prefects of serving alcohol at reunion dinner

THE Old Paulians’ Association Seremban (OPA) views with utmost gravity the baseless allegations circulating across social media platforms falsely implicating school prefects in the handling and serving of alcoholic beverages during the OPA Centenary Reunion Dinner.

The OPA categorically refutes and unequivocally condemns these allegations.

They are wholly unfounded, constitute a deliberate and malicious distortion of the facts and are calculated to damage the standing, reputation and dignity of both the Association and the institution of St Paul.

The Centenary Reunion Dinner was a private alumni function organised hy OPA and held at Regent Hall, Seremban – strictly off school premises and outside school hours.

Attended by approximately 1,600 alumni and distinguished guests, the event was organised to commemorate the Association’s historic centenary milestone and to raise charitable contributions for upgrading school infrastructure, enhancing educational facilities and supporting welfare at St Paul’s Institution (SPI).

The participation of pupil prefects was entirely voluntary, backed by express, written parental consent.

Their responsibilities were strictly confined to ceremonial protocols, registration management, promoting centenary commemorative merchandise and welcoming arriving guests.

Editor’s Note: Negeri Sembilan WAWASAN pro-tem chairman Badrul Hisham Shaharin a.k.a. Chegu Bard had recently bemoaned “pupils ordered to serve ALCOHOL in an old pupils’ event attended by many DAP leaders” at the recent Old Paulians’ Association (OPA) 100th anniversary reunion dinner.

More specifically, he claimed that “a total of 25 school prefects were instructed by the school’s principal to attend and serve alcohol” to guests.

“The ceremony was attended by the headmaster and senior assistant for pupils’ affairs who sat on the VIP table,” the WAWASAN election director penned on his Facebook page.

He further alleged that protests were made during rehearsals and briefings not only by Muslim teachers but the majority of teachers (including non-Muslims) by means of directing their complaints to SISPA (public feedback, complaint, inquiry, suggestion and appreciation platform) but to no avail.

‘Bad-faith labelling ordinary Chinese tea as wine’

At no point whatsoever were the pupils directed, permitted or pressured to touch, pour, dispense or serve alcoholic beverages.

This zero-tolerance directive was documented clearly in written briefing notes and repeatedly reinforced verbally by the organisers.

The OPA further rejects any assertion that objections were raised, suppressed or disregarded during these briefing sessions. Such claims are complete fabrications.

For the avoidance of doubt, neither teachers nor prefects were involved in any rehearsal sessions prior to Sept 5.

During the solemn toasts to His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and the Alma Mater, prefects assisted solely in distributing ordinary Chinese tea.

Any surface foam observed immediately upon pouring was merely natural aeration from tea which dissipated within moments and cannot under any circumstances be construed as evidence of wine or alcoholic beverages.

The OPA wholly rejects the bad-faith labelling of ordinary Chinese tea as wine or alcohol without credible substantiation. The circulation of photographs and selective footage devoid of factual context is a cynical manipulation intended to mislead the public.

Neither the school administration nor teachers ever instructed any pupil to handle alcoholic beverages.

The OPA expresses deep regret and outright condemnation over the reckless dragging of the school administration, our Guest of Honour YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook and other distinguished guests into this fabricated, malicious controversy.

The Association maintains a zero-tolerance policy against the publication, amplification or dissemination of false, defamatory statements that harm the reputation of the Association, the school, its pupils and its global alumni fraternity.

The OPA has sought legal counsel and is currently lodging a police report. The Association reserves all legal rights to initiate legal action, including civil defamation suits for substantial damages against any individual or entity responsible for originating, publishing or circulating these defamatory falsehoods.

The OPA urges members of the public, the media and social media users to exercise discernment, refrain from jumping to premature conclusions and cease sharing unverified, misleading content.

All matters concerning this event must be evaluated based on verified facts, documentary evidence and complete context.

The Association will vigorously defend the integrity, good name and honour of St. Paul’s Institution, its pupils and its alumni through all available legal avenues.

The OPA expects this matter to be dealt with responsibly, objectively and respectfully and will not hesitate to pursue the full extent of the law to safeguard the dignity of the Paulian community. – Oct 24, 2026

MCA stages walkout from BN candidate announcement over seat allocations

Party president Wee Ka Siong says seats MCA previously contested were allocated to other parties without proper consultation.

WEE KA SIONG - PRESIDENT MCA
MCA president Wee Ka Siong said the party had met BN’s other component parties only once in Melaka before negotiations concluded.
PETALING JAYA:
MCA leaders walked out of a Barisan Nasional event announcing the coalition’s candidates for the Nov 14 Melaka election tonight, saying the party would not accept decisions made without its consent.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong said seats previously contested by the party had been allocated to other parties without proper consultation, despite MCA being a long-standing BN component party.

“MCA cannot be pushed around. We deserve to be treated with dignity. How can decisions be made on MCA’s behalf without our agreement when the MCA president is still here?” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

Wee walked out of the event at the Melaka International Trade Centre with MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon and leaders from six MCA divisions in Melaka.

He said BN’s executive secretary had informed MCA at about 9pm yesterday that the event would only involve the launch of the coalition’s election machinery, with no candidates to be announced.

However, after arriving at the venue, he was told that candidates might be announced.

Wee questioned BN’s leadership over the change, saying MCA had learnt at a meeting two days ago that seats it had previously contested would be allocated to other parties without proper negotiations.

He said MCA strongly objected to the proposed seat allocation and sent a letter to BN yesterday to formally express its disagreement.

Wee described the situation as unprecedented in his years in politics, saying MCA had met BN’s other component parties only once in Melaka before negotiations concluded.

“At the very least, we should be shown some respect. We are allies, not enemies. If there had been proper discussions and we had reached a decision together, we would have been prepared to share responsibility,” he said.

Wee said the walkout was intended to make it clear that MCA would not accept decisions made without consultation.

He also said the walkout concerned the seat allocation process in Melaka and should not be taken as a reflection of MCA’s broader cooperation within BN. “We still have time before nomination day. I hope this can be corrected,” he said.

When asked whether MCA would withdraw from contesting in Melaka, Wee said the party had yet to make a decision and would assess developments over the next few days.

MCA previously held Klebang and Machap Jaya in the Melaka state assembly after contesting seven seats in the 2021 state election, including Ayer Keroh, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir and Bemban.

‘The officials are morons’: Haze that reached Malaysia now has Indonesian students protesting in central Kalimantan

PALANGKARAYA (Indonesia), Oct 24 — Hundreds of students protested late Friday in Indonesia’s Palangkaraya, demanding the government do more to tackle a wildfire crisis that has shrouded their city and the wider region in toxic haze for months.

The students, many wearing surgical masks, gathered under an eerily orange sky with severely reduced visibility and waved banners urging authorities to declare a national emergency to free up more aid.

“The officials are morons, yet they get fantastic perks while the lives of the common people are tragic,” read one protest placard nailed to a wall outside the office of the governor of Central Kalimantan — an Indonesian province on the island of Borneo where the fires are taking place.

The demonstrators sang the Indonesia Pusaka patriotic song and engaged in light skirmishes with police.

No injuries or arrests were reported and as night fell, the protesters cleared up their trash before dispersing peacefully.

“We call upon the Central Kalimantan provincial government to state clearly that it is unable to mitigate this disaster, so that the situation may be officially designated a national disaster,” protest leader Yuyun Sanjaya told the crowd.

“How is it possible that such thick, dense smoke is being inhaled by helpless elderly people and newborn infants, and the government simply lets it happen?”

Wildfires have burned more than 1.9 million hectares in the nine months to September, according to deforestation monitor Nusantara Atlas — a figure the government has not confirmed or denied.

The resulting haze has sickened hundreds of thousands in Indonesia and reached as far as Malaysia, Singapore and East Timor.

Amid diplomatic objections from neighbouring countries, patience has also been running thin at home, with sporadic anti-government protests.

On Thursday, Indonesian school children prayed for rain on Java island, where fires have also ravaged several regencies and conservation areas. — AFP

Trump’s Oval Office outburst has social media questioning his mental state: ‘A fairly textbook dementia symptom’

24 Oct 2026 • 8:28 PM MYT

The Independent

President Donald Trump’s Oval Office outburst has prompted renewed questions on social media about his mental state.

During a Tuesday press gaggle, Trump repeatedly snapped at Andrew Feinberg, The Independent’s White House correspondent, ordering him to pipe down, warning him to “be careful” and labeling him a “sick person.”

“Wait, wait, wait, wait. Quiet, quiet!” Trump said while seated behind the Resolute Desk. “What’s wrong with you? Are you a sick person? I actually think there’s something wrong with you.”

Clips of the exchange and other clashes with Feinberg quickly went viral on social media, drawing millions of views and thousands of comments. While Trump has a long history of lashing out at journalists — he’s called them “treasonous,” “stupid” and “nasty” — many users expressed shock at the level of anger on display Tuesday.

“Legit scary,” progressive political strategist Chris Sosa wrote on X. “Trump is a sick man. Literally something is broken,” added Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican congressman from Illinois.

A number of commenters suggested the 80-year-old president was exhibiting signs of mental decline — claims the White House has repeatedly dismissed, countering that Trump is the “sharpest” president in American history.

“If Biden wasn’t fit to campaign, Trump’s cognitive decline should disqualify him from the presidency,” radio host and political commentator Mark Bland wrote in response to a video of Trump barking at Feinberg.

Others specifically raised the possibility of dementia.

“This kind of aggression is a fairly textbook dementia symptom and I’m not sure why we’re not talking about it more,” wrote one X user.

“I have looked after people with Dementia for around 8 years of my life. When I tell you that the way this man said ‘quiet’ paired with the facial expression has made me realise he’s got dementia,” added another.

A third chimed in: “He is exhibiting Lewy Body Dementia symptoms. His demeanor changes at the drop of a hat.”

Trump also had his share of defenders online, including Vice President JD Vance, who later called Feinberg an “imbecile.”

Feinberg opened Tuesday by asking Trump about his anti-fraud crusade, specifically a new pledge to give whistleblowers 1 percent of the fraudulent funds they uncover. After both Trump and Vice President JD Vance responded, the president asked Feinberg: “Who are you?”

When Feinberg later tried to ask follow-up questions, believing Trump had pointed to him, the president lashed out.

“I don’t know who the hell you are, but you better be careful,” Trump said at one point. Minutes later, when Feinberg mentioned the president’s golf course renovation project, the president growled at him to be silent and called him a “sick person.”

Trump is the oldest person ever to be inaugurated president. And the state of his mental and physical health has been the subject of growing public interest, following episodes of apparent daytime drowsiness, bruising on his hands and swollen ankles.

Multiple health experts have spoken out.

“The president has severe daytime somnolence,” CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner said in May. “And chronic insomnia is a severe illness. It can result in an increase in risk of dementia, a decrease in cognitive effects in older people.”

Last month, Dr. Bandy Lee, a forensic and social psychiatrist who previously taught at Harvard and Yale, described Trump as “an incredibly mentally unstable individual who’s become far more unstable with time.”

The White House has forcefully pushed back against claims that Trump is in any way unwell or unfit to serve.

“If it quacks like a duck, it may actually just be a Democrat hack doctor,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle previously told The Independent.

“President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history and any so-called medical professionals engaging in armchair diagnosis or false speculation for political purposes are clearly breaking the Hippocratic Oath they’ve sworn to,” he added.

The White House has also attributed Trump’s recurrent bruising on his hands to frequent handshakes and said chronic venous insufficiency caused his ankle swelling. In response to claims that the president has fallen asleep in public, the White House Rapid Response account has posted screenshots of news anchors with their eyes closed, insinuating that they had nodded off.

Trump has also insisted he is in excellent health, saying after a May physical that “everything” had “checked out PERFECTLY.”

Polls indicate a large swath of Americans have concerns. In an April YouGov survey, 48 percent of respondents said that Trump has suffered modest or significant cognitive decline.

The Independent has contacted the White House for comment.

Rafizi denounces ‘gutter politics’ in the Nik Nazmi khalwat case

Rafizi denounces ‘gutter politics’ in the Nik Nazmi khalwat case

IN a candid podcast episode, former minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has addressed former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s controversy, denounced targeted “gutter politics”, and drawn parallels to PKR’s history of political smears.

He also defended strict boundaries between personal life and governance.

In the Yang Berhenti Menteri (YBM) podcast on Friday (Oct 23) night, Rafizi strongly opposed smear campaigns, describing the incident involving Nik Nazmi as a targeted covert operation.

He revealed that Nik Nazmi was covertly tracked for months using a hidden GPS device under his vehicle, and the leaking of CCTV footage was intentionally coordinated by online actors to trigger public outrage.

“The truth is that gutter politics can exist in the same space where it has happened… The truth is indeed it was targeted. He was tracked for months and months. The CCTV was leaked. It was a targeted job.”

“The fact that he has been secretly tracked, and the fact that the CCTV was leaked as early as that evening – CCTV cannot be leaked, and those who have the power to seize CCTV, let alone leak it, are usually just the authorities,” he said.

Drawing on his decades in politics, Rafizi noted that PKR consistently faced similar attacks – ranging from party leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s court trials to leaked video scandals involving senior leaders.

He emphasised that smear tactics are an established tool used against political figures.

“This isn’t my first time going through it… If in PKR, it happened multiple times. I spent two decades fighting this gutter politics.”

“Every party in Malaysia has gone through the era of gutter politics – PKR the most, with videos, this and that. UMNO went through it too… Mat Sabu in 1995 went through it – your arrests, you weren’t even born yet.”

However, he maintains a strict boundary between a politician’s public duties and private affairs.

He considers personal issues between an individual and God, asserting that he would never use private leaks or explicit footage against opponents. But when private conduct fails public expectations, public scrutiny and party action become unavoidable.

He highlighted that Nik Nazmi took immediate accountability by publicly apologising to his family, while Bersama swiftly suspended him for three months without making excuses.

“Nik Nazmi immediately apologised and issued a statement… And second, the fact is the party immediately decided to rest him for three months… Bersama didn’t give excuses or anything, and action was taken.” — Oct 24, 2026
