The Curse of Marina Lee Abdullah?

I came across this info in RPK's The journey in life is never a straight line (PART 15):

But Anwar was adamant. “Make sure Zubir Embong and Rahman Bakar win,” Anwar instructed. “Do whatever needs to be done.” It was common knowledge that Hadi Awang and Anwar Ibrahim hated each other. Hence to Anwar this was also personal.

RPK

According to RPK who helped his MCKK matey Anwar Ibrahim* in the 1986 general election campaign in Terengganu, Rahman Bakar was selected to contest against Pak Haji Hadi Awang in Marang in 1986, and the UMNO man won, satisfying I suppose, Anwar's personal animosity against the PAS leader.

* Anwar was then the powerful UMNO Minister of Education, a ministerial appointment mandatory for ascending to the PM post.

I wonder whether the animosity between Anwar and Pak Haji had (or should it be grammatically 'has') to do with the known history of Anwar Ibrahim being (once) groomed to be the leader of PAS. Yes, kid you not!

Hadi Awang

Thus Dr M wasn't the only one who had an eye on the ABIM firebrand and his silvery-tongued manmanlai.

Naturally his highly vocal (is there any other way to describe Anwar, wakakaka) ABIM leadership and credentials brought him to the notice of PAS’ (late) president Dato' Ustaz Hajji Fadzil bin Muhammad Noor, a known moderate, who was so impressed by the younger man that the Ustaz wanted him to be his successor as President of PAS.

Just imagine that if Anwar had not joined UMNO,  today the PAS President would be Ustaz Anwar Ibrahim and not Pak Haji Hadi Awang. What a thought!

'cuse me while I have a tot or two of Scotch (naturally Johnny Walker Double Black) wakakaka.

But in that head-hunting episode, it was Dr Mahathir who won against PAS (Ustaz Fadzil Noor) for the affection of Anwar, a man then known for his ABIM anti-establishment (meaning anti-UMNO) crusade.

Dr Mahathir

I wonder whether Anwar had left ABIM for UMNO in a flash ... ZOoooooommm ... to join parachute into the most powerful political organization in Malaysia?

Probably from his change of allegiance to UMNO, many people including and especially his former mates in ABIM (except those who followed him into UMNO wakakaka) knew Anwar loves political power more than the political cause he was espousing as ABIM’s Chief.

Of course he claimed he would reform UMNO from within.

During his 16 years in UMNO he shot across the political landscape of power, lighting it up in meteorite fashion to become the very powerful DPM, and the publicly known heir-anointed to Dr Mahathir to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia, an appointment he wouldn't have (theoretically) achieved, as RPK wrote, if he had become only the PAS president after Ustaz Fadzil Noor.

Anwar Ibrahim

And in those 16 years in UMNO, as DPM and at times acting PM, did he exhibit any inclinations, even a mere subatomic iota, of reforms, or even voice same, as he had promised when he leapt from ABIM into UMNO?

Nay, nary a squeak nor a peep!

And when he was booted out from UMNO, he made that 16-year record of non-achievement as an UMNO minister even worse by blaming everyone else except himself, and only bleating reformasi when he was no longer in a position of power.

Anwar even dared claim to have been helpless to make changes while in government.

Former Bar president Zainur Zakaria sneered at Anwar’s pathetic excuse - read Zainur Zakaria Zapped AAB & Anwar Ibrahim for more.

Zainur Zakaria

Anyway, from my personal observations it’s more than political power per se that Anwar loves - oh, he loves that, there's no doubt. But apart from power per se and the associated considerable trappings for a DPM, I think he enjoys public adulation, and if not public adulation then at least supporters’ adulation more.

Eager hands raided the ossuary for me to be laid
As stepping stones for the progress of a demigod
On Ardha-Matanga, 4 tasks & seven white trunks
Saluting Brahma, walking to Amarawati by a lake

(extracts from my poem Murdering Altantuyaa Shaariibuu Again)

Altantuyaa Shaariibuu

Yes, according to the gospel by kaytee wakakaka, Anwar has a weakness for admiration, adulation and adoration from people, but I believe, more than would be considered normal. To his ears, thunderous applause (wakakaka) must be sheer delightful music.

He made it ... oh well ... almost.

They say, what goes up must come down again (unless of course, in going up 'whatever' has achieved escape velocity - well, let's see what happened and will happen).

It's possible that a Western educated person, especially in the classics, would make a comparison between Anwar Ibrahim and Achilles on many aspects, and though I agree, would argue only up to a certain point.

Both shot up like blazing stars, both were stop in their tracks at near the pinnacle of their glories, though in this, Achilles knew his fate, for he had personally chosen, when asked by the gods, to blaze up in glory but die young instead of becoming an average king to die at a ripe old age.

I believe Anwar also shares another commonality with Achilles - he has an Achilles heel and I posted on this in July 2008 in a piece titled The Achilles heel of Anwar Ibrahim. The part I want to extract for your perusal pertains to his Achilles heel:

During the Trojan War, he [Achilles]was basically (almost) invincible until he was fatally wounded in the same (un-bathed) heel by an arrow shot by Paris, son of King Priam of Troy.

Thus an Achilles’ heel is a fatal weakness (metaphorically not physical only) in spite of overall strength, actually or potentially, leading to downfall.

Anwar Ibrahim has an Achilles heel, and on this I don’t want to hear any of those salacious comments pertaining to recent events.

In my opinion, Anwar’s Achilles heel has been and still is his impatience.

Coupled with his excessive political ambitions, his Achilles heel had been and will be his downfall.

Achilles shot in heel

I then continued with the grapevine story of Anwar's humiliation of Gaafar Baba, the widely known split with Dr Mahathir, his highly publicized attempted 916 coup d'état to replace AAB's post-March 2008 government, and RPK's disenchantment with Anwar after campaigning for Mr Manmanlai.

One section of the
post The Achilles heel of Anwar Ibrahim is as follows (posted in July 2008 within a period which I call 'The not so Manmanlai Interregnum', wakakaka):

Anwar's Achilles heel is showing through again, refusing to wait for the next general election – of course there are other factors as well which I will blog on tomorrow. Hence the PKR's almost daily broadcast about pending party defections … perhaps to pressure other UMNO stalwarts if not AAB, ........

Expect him to continue and even escalate his campaign of political destabilization, as he becomes more frantic with the approaching September 16 in just 2 months time.

And Malaysiakini has just published 'Opposition had planned demo today' where it reported Home Affairs Minister Syed Hamid claiming that, this month alone, his ministry has received information that numerous demonstrations were to be staged by the opposition (he probably meant PKR) with the sole purpose of toppling the government.

Aiyoyo, Anwar, where's your man man lai? Just like your reformasi?

Anwar & supporters

Anyway, in August 2008 (still within 'The not so Manmanlai Interregnum', wakakaka) I posted another opinion-piece on Anwar titled The torment and impatience of Anwar Ibrahim, extract as follows:

I note that Anwar Ibrahim has grown gaunt rather than slim – perhaps he’s more careful about his diet as he is in his 60’s, or perhaps the campaign (since pre-March 2008) has taken a terrible toll on him.

Anwar Ibrahim has driven himself incessantly, frenetically and obsessively towards what he hope will be his political crowning glory, the premiership of Malaysia.

Leaving aside his conceit, love of power and disdain for those he sees as his intellectual inferiors in the current UMNO hierarchy, his unrelenting push to become the PM of Malaysia, by hook or by crook, has been due to one tormenting factor …

… which has been the loss of his place in Malaysian political leadership history as the 5th PM of our nation, just on the eve of his expected ascendancy as Dr Mahathir’s anointed heir.

His ascendancy would have fulfilled even the legend of UMNO’s Da Vinci code(s), for surely in R-A-H-M-A-N, the letter ‘A’ would have come after ‘M’.
Yet, as they say, ‘There’s many a slip ‘twixt cup and lip’, and Anwar found that to his invincible distress.

I believe it has been this narrow miss at the highest political office, just by a hair’s breath, that has made the man super-geram, a frustrated anger beyond normal boundaries, even sending him into unbridled rage.

It has been an experience that has tormented him since.

Da Vinci code

Today, I offer for your perusal a Free Malaysia Today article by CT Ali titled Each folly by Anwar has its costs.

Incidentally, CT Ali is a reformist who believes in Pakatan Rakyat’s ideologies. He is a FMT columnist, so please don't automatically condemn him as an UMNO mole, in the same Myrmidon-ish way as some anwaristas have condemned me as a MCA paid writer (though I wish MCA would bloody pay me, wakakaka).

Some relevant perusing for us would be as follows:

Alas for Anwar and for us, what political capital and reservoir of goodwill from the Malaysian public that he, PKR and Pakatan had gained from the success of the 12th general election had not been used wisely.

From the false euphoria of an impossibly ill-conceived announced takeover of Putrajaya, through a series of increasingly questionable decision-makings that smack too openly of political opportunism and self-interest, Anwar has lurched from one political disaster to another.

Each folly by Anwar had its costs. And slowly but surely PKR and then Pakatan lost traction in its attempt to take what happened at the 12th general election onto to the next level where Pakatan could have formed the government after the 13th general election.

So far we have accommodated his follies, overlooked his personal misdemeanours, ignored his crass stupidity in thinking that we did not know what was happening in Selangor, chuckled at his flights of fancies (taking over Putrajaya) and forgave him his errors – all in the name of Pakatan and mindful of what he has undergone at the hands of a revengeful Mahathir.

Perhaps Anwar mistook our lack of a cracking of the whip when we should, as being a licence for him to carry on with his questionable activities – personal or otherwise.

Perhaps he thinks that the end justifies the means. That we will overlook anything he does if that is what he thinks is needed for Pakatan to win the election and for him to be prime minister.

I think Anwar is sadly mistaken.

Gutter politics

I just want to tell Anwar this.

If you are personally involved in any way with Deepak Jaikishan and Musa Hassan’s recent revelations, then you really have no sense of the contempt and disgust most of us have for politicians, any politicians for that matter, who want to score cheap political points by resorting to gutter politics.

The same revulsion felt by so many of us at the manner Mahathir treated and pursued you (I think the word to describe what Mahathir did was “zalim”) after your fall from grace can so easily now be turned towards you if you insist on going the same way as Mahathir and Umno.

And it can turn with such a ferocity and vengeance as to render any attempt by you to continue as leader of Pakatan simply impossible.

If you detect a sense of finality in these assertions by me, then you are right.

There is rising anger among many of us rakyat at the possibility that we will have to put up with this ridiculous charade of a financially desperate Deepak and a retired “past his use by date” Musa to plead their case for their own gains with your help.

And seemingly being able to do it in the guise of “truth telling” to enable the people to know what is the truth!

All this just does not gel with the people anymore.

Cease and desist, Anwar, and disengage while you still can from the stranglehold that Deepak and Musa will eventually have over you when the tide turns as it did with (private investigator) P Balasubramaniam.

Do it while you still can.

Musa Hassan

Incidentally, in RPK's The journey in life is never a straight line (PART 15) he mentioned Anwar chewing him for being in KL instead of Terengganu helping in UMNO's campaign in 1990, an act which angered RPK's wife, Marina because Anwar scolded her husband in public in front of many people.

RPK told us Marina said: “That bastard is never going to become the Prime Minister. You just watch. Record that in your diary. He is going to fall. Record that in your diary.”

Has that been a potent curse, one as deadly as the arrow of Paris, son of King Priam of Troy?

RPK & Marina

kaytee's public service (1) - for PAS

Yo, ye PAS faithful who will be PISS f*-ed pretty soon.

PAS

Please take a look at Wikipedia on topic Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party or PMIP. For those PAS newcomers, PMIP was what your party was known by in earlier days when English was used as the official language (and even unto some many years after Merdeka), ...

logo used in Singapore general election in 1963
candidate was Mohamad Taha bin Suhaimi in Geylang Serai

party logo of UMNO Singapore

... and which has been why UMNO is UMNO and not something like Organisasi (or Parti) Kebangasaan Melayu Bersatu - yes, the abbreviation UMNO is in English, wakakaka, which makes me wonder why Dr Mahathir hasn't changed it, he being the xenophobe he has presented himself to be, wakakaka again.

UMNO

Anyway, much to my shock, I read the opening sentence in the Wikipedia topic as:

The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (Malay: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) (Jawi: ڤرتي اسلام س-مليسيا) commonly known as PAS or Pas, is an Islamist political party in Malaysia and is currently headed by Dato' Seri anus.

After-note: since my heads-up to PAS, the Wiki-post has been amended.

I just couldn't believe my eyes so I clicked on that word-link to see if it leads to perhaps some Arabic or Latin or even Swahili translation for that word which means something proper, but alas, it took me to a page where the opening paragraph is:

The anus is an opening at the opposite end of an animal's digestive tract from the mouth. Its function is to control the expulsion of feces, unwanted semi-solid matter produced during digestion, which, depending on the type of animal, may be one or more of: matter which the animal cannot digest, such as bones; food material after all the nutrients have been extracted, for example cellulose or lignin; ingested matter which would be toxic if it remained in the digestive tract; and dead or excess gut bacteria and other endosymbionts.

Anus

Oh dear oh dear, dearie me - obviously someone naughty has hacked the Wiki's PMIP page.

PAS member?

No no no don't thank me, just consider my info as a kaytee's public service, wakakaka.

Election Commission admits its officers belong to political parties

The Malaysian Insider - EC officers have democratic right to join political parties, says chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — Election Commission (EC) officers are within their democratic right to join political parties but they must not be partisan in carrying out their duties, says its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

The EC chairman disclosed this when responding to accusations by PAS that a senior EC officer in Sabah was holding a key post in the Kinabatangan Umno Youth chapter. The EC’s impartiality has been continuously questioned by the opposition and activists over the past years.

That's so bullshit.

EC officers are certainly within their democratic right to vote for any political party but to argue they may be members of political parties is nonsense.

To further argue that there is no law or regulation preventing EC officers from becoming members of political parties is pettily, bureaucratically and disingenuously argumentative, because that would be ignoring the procedural maxim of 'fairness must not only be done but must be seen to be done'.

And just how the hell can fairness be seen to be done when senior officers in the EC are members of political parties. Thus if the law or regulation doesn't exist, then the EC should have in lieu a departmental policy to ensure no serving EC officer is a member of any political party.

The EC is not unlike the Armed Forces in terms of their vast and ever-present potential to change the course of democratic process. Thus none of their officers should be allowed to become members of political parties while they are still serving in the EC or Armed Forces.

The Chairman of the EC has merely confirmed his organization is unashamedly tainted with the potential to be politically partial, and in the most defiant and arrogant manner.

Political WTF 3 - OK to leap but why not look beforehand

I would have loved to use the idiom ‘out of the blue’ to describe the recent antics of former IGP Musa Hassan in his public criticisms of his old boss, Home Affairs Minister Hishamuddin, for allegedly interfering directly in police operational matters and other police issues – mind you, not that I disbelieve his principal allegations against his old boss, wakakaka.

Musa Hassan

But given the ringgit-driven politics of our much battered nation, I have to admit (perhaps even boast a wee bit, please allow me that) that I have expected/anticipated such late belakang-pusing (volte-face) entries into our political arena, in the persons of Musa Hassan and Deepak Jaikisian … and perhaps even more.

No sirree, we can’t depend on Balasubramaniam Perumal alone or even the poor over-exploited soul of Altantuyaa Shaariibuu to invigorate interests in the non-PKR dark side of Malaysian politics. There must be an innovative rafter of fresh sensational exposés to capture and hold voters' interests.

Balasubramaniam Perumal

But I must confess I've been influenced by the grapevine info that Anwar Ibrahim has a new and very rich financial backer. There’s nothing wrong with having financial backers, which is a normal practice in American, Australian and western politics, except over there, contributors of sums above, say, $ x must be known and recorded/reported, though in the USA, this regulation has been cleverly circumvented by breaking a large contribution into many many contributions of less than $ x.

The Jews are far more clever, contributing to both sides of politics … just in case, you know ... making them always winners regardless who wins and rules.

To be fair, many American Jews are left leaning liberals so please don’t assume they’re all Zionists. Perhaps the only chink in their left wing liberal politics is that, as Jews inheriting horrendous memories of the Holocaust, they are obligated in more than one way, to ensure at least the survival of Israel as a state.

But such is their political acumen and influence in Western democracies, through a combination of generous financial contributions and exploitation of Western guilt over the Holocaust, that an example of their intrinsic political power has recently manifested itself in Australia, in the state of New South Wales (NSW), which is now ruled by the right-wing Coalition under the leadership of Barry O’Farrell.

The NSW Board of Studies and Department of Education has accepted the Jewish Board of Deputies’s recommendation to make the study of the Holocaust a compulsory subject in Years 9 and 10 in NSW secondary schools. Previously the NSW Labor government had refused to make the subject compulsory, though it was available as a study option - see Sydney Morning Herald's Study of Holocaust mandated for schools.

Nazi concentration camp inmates, Jews and non-Jews

Vic Alhadeff of the Jewish Board of Deputies stated that ''The Holocaust is a warning to every generation about the potential for evil, especially as a consequence of racial hatred, and about the inherent evil of totalitarian regimes. It teaches us that every generation owes it to itself and to future generations to cherish and, if necessary, fight to defend the sanctity of life, dignity and freedom.''

I cannot but whole-heartedly agree with the opposition NSW Greens Party MP John Kaye who said that (since the study objective is to warn younger generations of Australians about the potential for evil arising from the consequence of racial hatred) while the Holocaust is rightly an essential part of the state syllabus, it should be taught in the context of the other 20th-century genocides.

Khmer Rouge victims

Indeed, kaytee has in mind studies of genocides and/or atrocities like the ones in Rwanda, Khmer under the Pol Pot Khmer Rouge regime, the massacre in Nanjing (Nanking) by the Japanese military during WWII, Sabra & Shatila and Deir Yassin in Palestine, Gaza during the Israeli Ops Cast Lead, My Lai in Vietnam, Wounded Knee and Indian Reservations in the USA as ugly examples of brutal colonialism, the US-British sanction of Iraq leading to infant malnutrition and deaths by the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi infants and children, etc.

Japanese decapitating Nanjing victim and baby
genocide at Nanjing alone took between 500,000 to 900,000 lives
whichever source for those figures, the victims there were of considerable numbers

Focusing solely on the Holocaust effectively confers monopoly of victim-hood to the Jews and indirectly teflonises Israeli atrocities automatically as defensive measures when the truth could well be otherwise, obviously something the Zionists and pro Israel lobbies want.

Anyway, back to financial contributions in Malaysian politics – as mentioned there’s nothing incorrect about this, as even DAP strives for this but through election fund raising dinners and donation drives where supporters and well-wishers donate relatively small and accountable sums.

Only big political movers (UMNO) or those the financial contributors see as potential big political movers (wakakaka) receive humongous (and in most cases, unaccountable) sums, which enable the big political movers the latitude to ‘strategize’ and ‘campaign’ for voters’ support, or even without voters’ support, wakakaka.

For example, it’s no secret that there were talks (at RPK's Malaysia-Today) about the 916 coup d'état requiring at least RM 300 million to bring about that aspired change of government, an amazing strategy that had required its Great Conceptualizer to think totally outside the box .... specifically the ballot box, wakakaka.

We were informed that it didn't eventuate for the same reprehensible ringgit reason, that the RM 300 million was deemed as, insanely as this may sound, not enough … because the other side had (still has) deeper pockets to counter-offer far bigger sums to the potential political defectors.

Well, wow, WTF, one would be totally gob-smacked f* and kau kau too, when one is informed that RM 300 million is NOT enough? Pardon moi, but I'm just not used to such Fort Knox sums being considered as not enough.

Mind, we've gathered too from the grapevine that a Madame reputed to be the Whore of Babylonpang was paid a humongous RM 25 million to metamorphose into Madame Butterfly so as to flutter over to another rose, wakakaka, so perhaps on second thoughts, indeed, what would be a mere RM 300 million for 30 MPs?

Whore of Babylon

This leads us to one of the most despised persons in Malaysia, Musa Hassan the former IGP, who has recently and almost on a daily basis, self-canonized himself into some kind of law & order Saint Ralph Nader, in turn leading us to undergo a range of emotions … outrage at what we saw as his brazen hypocrisy, wakakaka at the ridiculousness of an oxymoron-ic reformasi ex-IGP, and finally deep suspicions as to the likely person behind Musa Hassan’s pseudo-crusade of righteous criticisms against ministerial political interference in police operational process.

People such as blogger Ahmad Lufti Othman leapt at the opportunity to call for serious investigations into Musa Hassan’s accusations. In his post Musa Hassan dan aksi Bollywood he wrote:

In short, as per kaytee’s very basic loose translation (using some of my own words), Ahmad Lufti advised that the seriousness of Musa Hassan’s allegations must supersede partisan politics, while the allegations about Musa Hassan’s own impropriety in his alleged connections with the alleged criminal underworld figure Goh Cheng Poh @ Tengku Poh should not be allowed to distract us from looking seriously into the issue of political interference in police activities.

I agree with Ahmad Lufti but at the same I reckon there’s no harm in speculating over who’s behind the pseudo-canonization of the man known as Musang. Hey, it's Sunday and I have a lot of idle time on my hands, wakakaka.

Initially I was inclined to think it was Dr Mahathir and his king-making moves a la the pre-2008 GE period when he undermined AAB even at the expense of UMNO, but then I asked myself, pre 2008 was then, when Dr M wasn't aware how extensive BN-UMNO’s staggering loss would be, whereas today he knows that Pakatan could possibly be on the cusp of victory, an event he doesn't want to come about.

So why would he cut his sons’ nose to spite Najib’s face (excuse my mixed metaphors)? Why use Musang to sabo Najib (and Hishamuddin) at this very late and crucial stage of UMNO's game where there's no or very little room for internal party manoeuvrings?

It would be in his and sons' interests (possibly his main concerns) to go along with Najib, at least until GE-13 is over. UMNO's 'Night of the Long Knives' can then be conducted. Hence the suspicion about Dr M’s involvement in the beautification (or canonization) of the Musang is not well-founded, only because the time available for any Machiavellian manoeuvring is just not there.

Dr Mahathir

I am more inclined to raise questions about 'who' elsewhere, on top of which I read that the other side has a new and (financially) powerful backer. How "so sweet", wakakaka.

Besides, Saifuddin Nasution, the PKR Sec-Gen, has indirectly indicated by his tap-dancing to press questions about Musa Hassan applying to be a PKR member, there was possibly such an application or at least a personal approach, and who knows, perhaps even a behind-doors' tête-à-tête, wakakaka.

As it has been said, anything is possible in politics, even unto sleeping with the enemy, wakakaka, and boy, was Robert Phang mad about the alleged unholy union – see my previous post Sleeping with the enemy.

But then, in the immortal words of Machiavelli, ‘the ends justify the means’, wakakaka.

As a wise someone told me just recently, it’s your democratic rights to vote for whoever you see fit to lead the nation or those who are part of the outfit he leads, but you should be aware of any likely wolf leopard beneath the sheep’s clothing.

In this, RPK has written a good post titled Always consistently inconsistent in which I left a comment that PKR likes to cherry-pick episodes of UMNO's sins for exposure, specifically those which did not involve Anwar Ibrahim. You know, in one of my recent posts Faith & Salvation, I wrote:

To ensure your faith, some religions (surprisingly not Judaism) have old Nicky or Satan (the Syaitan Dr Mahathir said you know), who I believe becomes the unfortunate scapegoat for God’s negligence or mistakes, just so to ensure your faith in an infallible God does not falter.

Yes siree, God has a wonderful job description, namely, “take all credits for the wonders of this universe, miracles and acts of compassion, kindness and generosity, but blame the Devil for all wrongs, disasters and anything you don’t want to be associated with. And if cornered with unpleasant facts (eg. 350,000 innocent Indons killed during the Boxing Day tsunami), use the phrase ‘God works in mysterious ways’.”

Wakakaka, isn't that just a gnam gnam job description, as the anwaristas would see it, for the Great Man, reaping only credits but assigning all demerits and blames to his former UMNO leader-mentor and colleagues, people he happily worked alongside for 16 years without one teeny weeny peep or squeak from him about reformasi, ...

... no, certainly not when Tun Abbas Salleh, former Lord President of our courts, was removed in the most scandalous fashion. Sure, it was undeniably Dr Mahathir who did Tun Abbas in, but what protest did the so-called reformer raise?

It was in fact (indisputably so) left to Zaid Ibrahim, ironically a man (most unjustly) reviled by PKR because he condemned the alleged dodgy PKR party election polls, to successfully convince (then) PM AAB to officially redress that injustice to Tun Abbas, 20 years later.

Zaid Ibrahim

And that was Anwar Ibrahim’s modus operandi for 16 years in UMNO, conveniently keeping quiet (or acting dunno) and enjoying the trappings of power while his UMNO party went about its collective merry ways. Then, when and only when he was booted out of UMNO (screaming his lungs out) he sang a different tune, that of reformasi.

Ooops my bad, correction to that, he did raise his voice once when in UMNO, in 1996, and that was to boast after UMNO Youth thugs (including then UMNO Youth No 3 and currently PKR Sec-Gen Saifuddin Nasution) had perpetuated violent disruption at an international forum held at the KL Asia Hotel. That forum called Apcet II was forced to be abandoned because of the violent intrusion by BN Youth and their heckling and disruptive behaviour.

Apcet II - see if you can spot Saifuddin Nasution, wakakaka

It was a disgraceful episode in our nation’s history, where BN Youth showed their barbaric hooliganism to the whole world, made even worse when Anwar as acting PM actually boasted pompously after the BN thugs completed their nefarious disruption on Apcet II: "Our mission was to stop the conference and we did just that," effectively praising the violent hecklers.

And may the bells in the Indian temple ring to remind us of the wolf leopard in sheep's clothing.

Can't I ever forgive him?

I understand in Islam Allah swt can forgive someone's sins provided the sinner recognizes the offence itself and its admission before God, makes a commitment not to repeat the offence, (if the offence was against someone) does whatever needs to be done to rectify the offence (within reason) and asks pardon of the offended party, and asks for forgiveness from God.

Of course I as a mere mortal can forgive him, indeed we all can and should, PROVIDED he has repent (from his UMNO ways during those bad days) and that his reformasi is truly about genuine political reforms.

But can we, should we when in 2008 he schemed up 916, and in January 2009, he enthused about the defection of UMNO's Nasarudin Hashim (an amazing frog soon to be known as the revolving-door politician).

To use Karpal Singh's fave Bahasa word - Bertaubat?

Karpal Singh

Remember, Allah swt can forgive someone's sins provided the sinner recognizes the offence itself ..., makes a commitment not to repeat the offence, ... etc etc.

WTF, he couldn't even recognize his old sins from Sabah 1994; he couldn't resolve not to recommit such reformasi sins, let alone avoid scheming up major mafulat-ish move like 916.

The revolving-door scandal, or more precisely Anwar's welcoming that Bota Wonder was what made Karpal Singh tore his hair out to publicly condemn political defections, and to urge a Pakatan stop to such political subversions of the ballot box.
So how to accept him as a (politically) changed man and support him, when I see is the same ferocious predatory leopard which hasn't changed its political spots.

And if you urge ABU supersedes all, fine, let's ABU but which I opine most strongly should include ABU-ing people like him, Azmin Ali and Saifuddin Nasution.

I'm however okay with his daughter and most of the other PKR, all of whom I will politically support.

Naturally, I expect that criticizing Anwar and his inner cohorts, would have me criticized/condemned as a BN cyber-trooper, because in the anwaristas blinkered mud-splattered eyes, who but only BN would criticize the world’s greatest political reformer, wakakaka.

And of course, democracy, independent thinking and the right to vote for a candidate of their choice are their monopoly. Others who don’t vote for or support Anwar and PKR must be BN people, wakakaka again.

It’s not unlike a preacher telling you God made men special because unlike His other creatures HE endowed them with free will, ... except the free will does not include any silly ideas about not worshipping Him, wakakaka.

And this post I dedicate to those hecklers and vandals at my blog - you're not unlike those UMNO hecklers and vandals at KL Asia Hotel in 1996, wakakaka.

Lose-Lose-Lose in the Aminulrasyid Amzah's case

Malaysiakini - Look into my mother's eyes and apologise, Jenain told

It has been a lose-lose-lose situation right from the very start.

I'm talking about the police shooting of Aminulrasyid Amzah 2 years ago, resulting in the death of the 14-year old boy.

Aminulrasyid Amzah

What did Aminul do to deserve a barrage of 21 bullets from one policeman (and several from another but which was discounted as contributing to the fatality)?

Was the boy committing some heinous crime that required such an immediate drastic reaction from the police?

Was he in the midst of an act that would have resulted in the immediate and direct deaths of others, unless the police opened fire to stop him and his act?

No, Aminulrasyid was just driving around without a licence, the act of a kid out on a lark - but when suddenly confronted by the police he panicked (or didn't want to be caught driving illegally) and sped off.

Did this in itself (speeding off) require the police to spray bullets at him as if he was a terrorist, or a murderer or a bank robber running away from the scene of the crime, or about to commit such violent acts?

Cp Jenain Subi

What were and are the RULES OF ENGAGEMENT for police in a situation where a car speed off when police attempt to stop it?

Wasn't/isn't opening fire in this situation an unjustifiable act, especially for a public force created to protect the public, including and especially naughty kids?

I fear there is an underlying streak of violence, arrogance, unaccountability and siapa-raja-ness in the PDRM, where opening fire in such low security situations seems to be normal.

The mata-mata out in the street has, through his leaders'/peers' examples, indoctrination, training (or lack of), come to believe in his/her unfettered authority and right to open fire when he/she deems a target is not appropriately obedient (to his/her commands) or inappropriately insubordinate in his/her presence.

PDRM

It was a very violent rape of a boy's right to safety and security, which (unlike the Indonesian maid) led to death.

And so had perished 17-year old Johari Abu Bakar (also in a car when shot dead by police), 23-year old Francis Udayappan, 22-year old Ananthan Kugan and various other Indians when under police custody. Teoh Beng Hock and Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed suffered from the same institutionalised brutal mentality when under MACC custody.

Thus far, no one in the police or MACC has been found guilty. One MACC senior officer was even promoted.

In 2007 Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob, the (then) Chief Judge of Malaya, expressed her deep concerns that 80 deaths in police custody occurred between January 2000 and December 2004 – that’s an average of 20 people dying per annum while in police custody, or almost a frightening 2 per month for 4 continuous years - but only 6 inquests, less than 10% of the deaths, were even held.

The leadership of the PDRM, from the political level (Home Affairs Minister) to the operational commander (IGP and senior police brass), must take the blame for such unnecessary (in fact criminal) police violence.

They have failed in their responsibilities to ensure public security, because public security was and is threatened by the very people the public hires to do the job.

Hishamuddin Hussein should be honourable like his grandfather and father, and resign. And I hope those intending to deal with a failed (former) IGP should think twice.

A mother has lost a boy; a father (Corporal Jenain Subi) knows he killed a 14-year old boy. I've no doubt his act of unmitigated violence will stay with him for the rest of his life.

It has been lose-lose-lose all the way.

I recall discussing this tragedy with a munchie sweetie shortly after Cpl Jenain was charged in court, and she confessed how sad Jenain had looked which in turn made her sad. I too was sad for both Aminulrasyid's family and Jenain Subi's family.

Lose-lose-lose! Aminulrasyid's family loses, Jenain Subi's family loses, the public loses.

The judge who acquitted Jenain ruled that the police corporal had no intention to kill Aminulrasyid and had merely shot at the vehicle to stop it.

I'm confused - say, 2 men quarrelled in a bar which led to fisticuffs, with one being killed from a heavy punch. I believe that's manslaughter, though the perpetrator had no intention to kill the deceased and had merely fought with his fists because of a quarrel.

Thus I'm not sure why the judge could acquit Corporal Jenain, who killed a boy in a situation which didn't justify opening fire at the runaway car, and which had not been involved in a serious crime threatening lives nor inflicted injury or caused deaths.

I'm not advocating punishing Jenain Subi for the sake of vengeance, for as mentioned, it has been a terrible lose-lose situation for everyone.

But I fear the judge's ruling is a dangerous precedence where the police will come to believe it's okay for them to shoot off from the hips without considering the justifications for the drastic act, and not be worried about dangerous and illegal use of firearms.
