KOTA BHARU:
The PAS Youth muktamar has approved a motion for the Islamic party to defend all of its existing parliamentary and state seats in future elections, even when cooperating with other parties.

PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar said the motion was tabled by a Padang Terap delegate and unanimously passed by the over-800 delegates at the annual muktamar.

It was among six motions approved by the youth wing, to be brought to the main PAS muktamar which starts tomorrow.

“This is to preserve the trust and confidence of voters who elected PAS to represent them. It is also a core policy in seat negotiations with allies,” he said last night.

There has been speculation that the PAS-led Perikatan Nasional (PN) will work with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election, especially after their alliance resulted in a stunning victory in the Aug 1 Negeri Sembilan polls.

However, official talks have yet to begin and it is uncertain if BN and PN will form a pact for the Melaka state election, which is due by February 2027.
