PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu will not cooperate with any political party in the Melaka state election, including those in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali said today.

Azmin said the party would use the Bersatu logo to contest, as it did in the Negeri Sembilan election.

“Our focus now is on reviewing election preparations in several target areas,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Azmin also said Bersatu was drawing up a strategy and preparing its election machinery to contest on its own.

He distanced the party from a meeting between several senior Bersatu and PH leaders in Melaka, saying the gathering was purely personal and had nothing to do with Bersatu’s official position.

On Sept 28, Bersatu leaders reportedly attended a closed-door dinner at a hotel in Melaka, fuelling speculation over possible cooperation ahead of the state polls.

Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, election director Ali Mohamad, associate wing chief R Sri Sanjeevan and Melaka information chief Hishamuddin Karim were among those present, Sinar Harian reported.

Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari previously said the state chapter was finalising negotiations with parties that shared similar aspirations, including Bersatu, to form a “PH Plus” alliance for the state election.

On Sept 29, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said PH would not team up with Barisan Nasional for the state polls.
