KUALA LUMPUR – Pas has expelled three Perlis state assemblymen from the party, effective immediately, after they signed statutory declarations (SDs) reportedly undermining the leadership of the state government.

The decision was confirmed by Pas President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, in a statement following a special meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee at Pas headquarters in Rusila, Marang, on Wednesday.

According to Hadi, the expulsion was made in accordance with Article 76 and Article 15A(1)(b) of the Pas Constitution (Amendment 2025). He confirmed that the three assemblymen affected were Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).

“The decision was made after careful deliberation by the party’s leadership, and we will notify the Speaker of the Perlis State Assembly in accordance with Article 50A(1)(a)(ii) of the Perlis State Constitution (Amendment 2022),” he added.

Earlier reports had suggested that Pas was planning a meeting to address the leadership crisis in Perlis, specifically regarding Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, who was accused of losing the majority support of the state assembly.

The meeting, held at Pas headquarters on Jalan Raja Laut in Kuala Lumpur, was confirmed by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Perlis and Deputy Commissioner III of Pas Perlis.

However, Shahidan emphasised that there was no organised movement within PN regarding the leadership dispute.

“I do not see any organised alliance, nor do I feel there is any coordinated effort,” he said.

“However, it is possible that individuals were approached, and what is being closely watched now is the decision Pas makes moving forward.”

Shahidan further said that the next steps would depend on Pas’ decisions, which would then be presented to the Raja of Perlis for further determination.

The issue arose after several assemblymen from Pas and Bersatu reportedly submitted statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, last Friday, stating their withdrawal of support for Mohd Shukri’s leadership. – December 25, 2025
