KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has assured him that the investigation into last month’s fatal shooting of three men in Melaka is being conducted thoroughly and transparently, without any compromise.

According to the New Straits Times, the prime minister told the Dewan Negara that the police report on the case will be submitted to the attorney general today for further action.

“The police report will be submitted to the attorney general today for further action,” he said during the question-and-answer session.

The prime minister was responding to Senator Amir Ghazali, who requested details on how the government plans to tighten oversight of law enforcement and curb misconduct and inefficiencies within agencies, including the police.

The shooting on November 24 claimed the lives of G. Logeswaran, 29, M. Puspanathan, 21, and M. Poovaneswaran, 24, during a police operation at an oil palm plantation.

Authorities said the incident occurred after one of the men allegedly attacked a policeman with a machete, prompting officers to open fire.

Police also said the trio was on their way to commit a burglary when intercepted by the team.

Families’ lawyers have since challenged the police account, citing whistleblower claims and photographs that they say raise questions about the events leading up to the shooting.
