KUALA LUMPUR — Raub MP Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) Chairman Wilson Chang have been arrested for obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, when contacted by Scoop, confirmed the arrests.
“The Raub MP and the Samka Chairman were detained today to assist in an investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which is obstructing a civil servant in carrying out his duties.
“Their remand period has yet to be determined,” Yahaya told Scoop.
News of the arrests was first posted on social media by the Facebook administrator of Chow’s page, citing lawyers of both individuals who said they were being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
“We will continue to monitor the development of this case and will update the latest information via Facebook and the media as soon as possible,” the Facebook post said.
Chow had recently helped durian farmers in his constituency who were protesting the felling of their trees during a a recent enforcement operation.
Raub durian farmers, who are unlicensed, are currently in a lawsuit with the state government over for using government land illegally. They farmers said they have grown durian on the land for many years under Temporary Operating Licences (TOL).
It was reported on April 10 that enforcement officers armed with chainsaws had felled around 1,000 durian trees, and Chow had been present siding with the farmers against enforcement officers.
Subsequently, Raub police chief Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman said that Chow, who is also Samka Advisor, would be called in. – April 14, 2025
