Pro-PN activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as ‘Ratu Naga’, has since apologised over her erroneous claim.

PETALING JAYA
Pro-Perikatan Nasional activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as “Ratu Naga”, who was arrested today over a claim that pupils at a Chinese school in Perak had sung the national anthem in Mandarin, will be released on police bail tomorrow.

Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin confirmed that Syarul was arrested by the criminal investigation division at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at noon today.

“The investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor tomorrow for instructions and further action,” Bernama quoted Bakri as saying in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Last week, police said they were investigating the activist for claiming that pupils at a Chinese school in Perak had sung the national anthem in Mandarin.

Three police reports were lodged against Syarul, who has since apologised for her erroneous claim.

Bakri was reported as saying the video was recorded on June 6 last year at a school in Teluk Intan and the pupils were actually singing the Perak state anthem.
