About 82 victims have been rescued from the area after a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, caught fire.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s aide Jay Jay Denis said 12 injured victims received treatment at the Nurul Iman Surau and Sri Maha Kaliaman Temple.
They are now at a temporary evacuation centre at the Putra Heights Masjid multipurpose hall, he said.
Earlier, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said six victims had been hospitalised after the fire.
Two were sent to the Cyberjaya Hospital and four are undergoing treatment at the Serdang Hospital, it said in a statement this morning.
“Petronas has closed the valve of the burning pipeline 14km from the fire. The fire has affected several nearby houses.
“The gas pressure in the pipeline has dropped to 0.1 of 40 bar,” the department said.
According to the initial FRD report, the fire was caused by a gas pipeline leak, with an estimated 500m section of the pipeline engulfed in flames. The fire was raging intensely, with flames soaring into the air.
It said the incident occurred near a residential area, prompting firefighters and other agencies to evacuate residents in the vicinity.
Separately, the Environment Department (DOE) was quoted by Bernama as saying it will carry out air quality monitoring in the area affected by the blaze.
DOE director-general Wan Abdul Latiff said Selangor DOE earlier deployed a team to conduct a preliminary assessment at the site.
“The public is advised to avoid areas near the fire,” he added.
