Teresa Kok has expressed her appreciation to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan for believing in her feline prowess.

“I too would like to believe that I am a tiger,” the DAP vice-chairperson told Malaysiakini.

“I would also like to believe that the people who voted for me did so because they wanted a tiger to represent them in and outside of Parliament,” she added.

Refusing to dwell on Takiyuddin reducing PAS and Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to “kittens” in comparison with her, the Seputeh MP said she bares her fangs to defend the interests of the nation and its citizens regardless of colour and creed.

“Unlike PAS, I do not sow discord for political mileage.

“I don’t spend every waking hour talking about my race and beliefs, nor do I dream about the imagined threats of other races and how to capitalise on them when I am sleeping,” she added.

Kok was responding to Takiyuddin dragging her name into his disagreement with academic Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi describing Akmal as a kitten compared to PAS which he likened to a tiger that “threatened” the nation with its brand of political Islam.

Employing the “kitten-tiger logic”, the PAS leader claimed Kok, who locked claws with Akmal over the halal certification issue, possessed greater potential of becoming a tiger as opposed to the other two.

Remember Nik Aziz’s birthday bash in tiger’s lair?

Kok also pointed out that “tigers” are not unique in DAP and PAS leaders had been close to them in the past.

Referring to the late party chairperson Karpal Singh, she said: “He was nicknamed the ‘Tiger of Jelutong’ by the people because he was fearless in representing them. This is our legacy.

“Does Takiyuddin remember when the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat saw it fit to celebrate his birthday in Karpal’s house in 2013?

“Would Nik Aziz have entered the tiger’s lair if he had considered DAP and its leaders a threat to Islam and the Malays?” she asked.

Calling it a “stale plot”, Kok told Takiyuddin and PAS not to use DAP and concoct threats as a smokescreen to cover their inadequacies in addressing more pertinent issues.

“Similar to the advice you gave the academic, I would like to share some unsolicited advice with you as well.

“Please do not shift the focus from pressing matters that affect the rakyat by roping in others. This is a shallow move,” she added.
