Detractors troll Sanusi’s MIA from flood relief operations as flood situation in Kedah worsens

**MIA = Missing in Action 9 as in Kedah's flood crisis

CURRENTLY-in-Japan Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been a target of ridicule by Madani government backers after an old boat-ride photo of him was used to accompany a media statement that portrays him as being in the centre of save-and-rescue operations.

“It’s OK. Even though Kedah is flooded and Sanusi is not in Kedah, at least this PAS supporter uses an old photo of Sanusi on a boat,” teased pro-Madani backer Roman Akramovich (@SyedAkramin). “At first glance, it looks like he’s in the middle of patrolling a flooded area ”

Ok lah ni. Walaupun Kedah sedang banjir dan Sanusi tak ada di Kedah, sekurang-kurangnya penyokong PAS ini guna gambar lama Sanusi tengah naik bot. Sekali pandang macam tengah ronda kawasan banjir 😂

The social media influencer was referring to the media statement posted by Daniel Wong (@YBDanielWong) whose true identity is believed to be that of former PAS candidate for the Ampang parliamentary constituency Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff.

Interestingly, the tweet by Daniel Wong was in response to an earlier post on the X platform by pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporter Fakta Bukan Auta (@FaktaBukanAuta) who revealed that Kedah has been the worst hit state in this round of flooding.

“The sad thing is that that our MB Sempoi (literally, Really Cool MB) is nowhere to be seen,” penned the social media influencer. “He’s said to be in Japan.”

Tahukah anda banjir dah masuk beberapa hari. Kedah negeri paling teruk terjejas banjir kali ni. Di Pendang, SP, Pokok Sena, Baling, beberapa tempat ayaq masuk rumah paras lutut. Jeti Kuala Kedah sampai tak nampak rupa. Jitra lagi teruk, rumah nampak bumbung saja pun ada. Yg… Show more

At any rate, the Kedah MB Office has clarified early yesterday (Sept 20) that Sanusi was in Kumamoto, Japan for official matters.

This was to allay allegations on social media claiming that Sanusi was vacationing with his wife overseas despite floods and storms affecting several districts in Kedah.

Among others, the visit aims to study underground dam management in the region tied to a project in Langkawi to tap underground water reserves which are expected to meet the island’s needs until 2040.

Nevertheless, the three social media posts have together elicited many brickbats from netizens against Sanusi who is also the Kedah PAS deputy commissioner and Jeneri state assemblyman.

One which really struck the chord is that of “divine intervention” whereby a Machang PAS Youth delegate at the Islamist party’s recent 70th muktamar (general assembly) has attributed the sinkhole incident in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur to “Allah’s retribution” but that of Kedah’s massive flooding to “a test from Allah”.

A juicer critic levelled at Sanusi has to do with his matrimonial life with netizens wondering if he is “honeymooning with his newly-wed second wife” or “busy gardening/planting seeds”.

Whatever said and done, Bernama reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to visit three temporary relief centres (PPS) housing flood evacuees in Kedah today (Sept 21).

During his brief visit to assess the flood situation in the state, Anwar will visit the Stadium Sultan Abdul Halim PPS, followed by relief centres in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Kedah and Sekolah Kebangsaan Titi Gajah.

Statewide, the total number of flood evacuees relocated to 42 temporary relief centres (PPS) across six districts has risen to 7,494 as of 8am today (Sept 21), up from 6,760 at 8pm yesterday (Sept 20). – Sept 21, 2024
