Anwar slams PAS for ‘maki hamun’ campaign against him

Anwar slams PAS for ‘maki hamun’ campaign against him

PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night (Sept 20) delivered a fiery speech, one that was reminiscent of his ‘reformasi’ days. However, the content this time was the long campaign of character assassination attempts by the PAS leadership and their supporters against him.

Last night, Stadium Axiata in Bukit Jalil echoed with chants of “Reformasi” from Anwar. Revisiting his iconic 25-year-old call, “The voice of the people is the voice of power,” Anwar addressed a massive crowd of reformists.

The PM responded with sarcasm to recent insults from PAS member Afnan Hamimi, who had mocked him for being a former prisoner.

“Yes, I am indeed a former prisoner, but an honourable one, accused unjustly and maliciously. In the past, it was you, your fathers, and PAS leaders who were among the first to defend us and reject those false accusations.

“Now, their children, ignorant of history, have become tools for the corrupt and instruments for thieves, and they now want to act as champions.”

Moreover, Anwar acknowledged his past, calling himself an “honourable ex-prisoner” who faced unjust accusations.

He reminded Afnan that PAS leaders like the late Datuk Fadzil Noor and Nik Aziz Nik Mat once defended him against false allegations. He condemned Afnan’s ignorance of history and ties to corrupt individuals.

Furthermore, Anwar criticised Afnan for disrespecting his father Datuk Taib Azamudden, a former PAS leader who supported Anwar in the past. He warned Afnan against misusing Islamic law and reminded him of the consequences of making false accusations (without sufficient evidence as per Islamic laws).

Finally, the Tambun MP reflected on the lack of adab (good manners) in today’s PAS leadership, including president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, whose disrespectful comments have caused tension with other leaders and royals.

He stated that PAS was not about good manners anymore but instead ran a campaign of ‘maki hamun’ (verbal abuse). – Sept 21, 2024
