Israel’s war on Gaza live: 13 women, children killed in raid on Nuseirat

• Israeli forces intensified attacks across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 13 women and children in the Nuseirat refugee camp and destroying a residential tower in Rafah.
• In isolated northern Gaza, an infant and a young woman died of malnutrition, taking the number of known starvation deaths to 25.
• Canada and Sweden restored funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, after the organisation accused Israel of forcing some of its staff to make false statements about their involvement in Hamas.
• Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency said truce talks are ongoing as Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh called on Israel’s allies to “stop this heinous war on Gaza” in a message ahead of Ramadan.
• At least 30,960 Palestinians have been killed and 72,524 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139, and dozens continue to be held captive.

Relative, medic provide details on Gaza woman’s starvation death

A relative and a medic has identified the young woman who died of malnutrition at Gaza’s al-Shifa Hospital as 20-year-old Shereen Abu Hazaa.

“She was doing well, but because of the shortage of nutrition and water, she fell ill. She had a chronic disease and required fresh fruits, vegetables and meat,” Abu Hazaa’s relative told Al Jazeera. “Unfortunately, none were available. We lacked the finances and have no jobs to provide these necessities for her, which ultimately led to her passing.”

A medic at the hospital said the facility was running out of the medication she required.

“Regrettably, she succumbed to dehydration and malnutrition,” he said. “Given that we have been in war for the sixth consecutive month, we are now running out of the medication she required. We encounter similar cases every day, including both young and elderly individuals. They are losing their lives due to malnutrition and a lack of medication.”
