Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has reiterated his belief that the King of Malaysia should adhere strictly to constitutional provisions, particularly when the opposition gains majority support from Members of Parliament (MPs). Hassan, a practicing lawyer and elected representative, emphasized that his stance reflects his role as an MP elected by the people and his commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution.

"As an MP, we are elected by the people themselves, reflecting the principles of parliamentary democracy. However, this differs from the King, as he only represents the constitutional monarchy system," Hassan explained in response to the King's recent statement cautioning against attempts to undermine the government's stability.

Hassan emphasized that all MPs take an oath to respect and uphold the Federal Constitution. While he acknowledges and respects the King, he disagrees with the King's address in Parliament and believes it is his duty, as both an MP and a lawyer, to express his personal views on the matter.

The King's recent warning, delivered during the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament, emphasized the importance of respecting the unity government formed after the 15th General Election in 2022. His Majesty urged all parties to wait for the appropriate time, such as the next election period (GE16), to engage in political activities.

Hassan reiterated that the King's role is that of a constitutional monarch, bound by the provisions of the Federal Constitution. He emphasized that if the existing government loses its legitimacy, the opposition has the right, according to the constitution, to pursue lawful and democratic means to replace it.

Critically, Hassan highlighted the need for the King to adhere to the Federal Constitution rather than acting based on personal preferences or sentiments. He criticized what he perceived as the King's partisanship in favor of the ruling government, stating that it would be both unlawful and unconstitutional for a government that has lost its support to continue governing until the end of its term.
