Kelantan tops sexual crimes against children infuriates netizens

HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail remarked on Friday (March 1) that Kelantan stands out as one of the states with the highest rates of sexual crimes against children.

This has infuriated netizens who are also not too surprised since Kelantan was once at the top of the list of Pornhub viewers in Malaysia.

Saifuddin told Sik MP Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman, who advocated for the implementation of Shariah laws in Malaysia to prevent child sexual abuse, that despite Kelantan having its own Shariah criminal code, it still ranks highest in such crimes against children.

“He (Tarmizi) said the increase in sexual crimes against children is because of the failure of the current legislation due to the lack of shariah enactments.

“This shariah criminal code was made in Kelantan. However, Kelantan is among the states with the highest number of cases,” said Saifuddin, citing police statistics that show sexual crimes against children are on the rise in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah when compared to 2022 and 2023.

Nevertheless, netizens are also ganging against the state of Kelantan and the PAS said having such laws seems insufficient to control the urges of some people.

On Facebook, some users are saying this is not surprising since Kota Baru was once on top of the list of cities that had the most Pornhub viewers in Malaysia.

Another Facebook user, with a more balanced view, said the opposition states are not the only ones facing such a problem. The user reminded the followers of the recent condemnation of a former Perak Dun for the rape of an Indonesian maid.

The user also mentioned the case of a famous preacher who is facing ‘lewd’ chat charges in the courts in Melaka.

Another user blamed the current situation on the excess politicking in Malaysia by some parties, adding that it should not be the case if religious teachings are taught correctly! – March 2, 2024
