KUALA LUMPUR – The results of the race for Umno Supreme Council and three vice-president positions is expected to be known later tonight as unofficial results are slowly trickling in this evening after polling closed at 5pm today.

As of 8pm, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail leads the vice-president’s race with 30 votes followed by former Johor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (26) and former finance minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (18).

Law Minister and Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman currently has 10 votes while Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican secured eight votes.

The other three contenders are Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad who secured six votes, followed by Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (four) and Mohd Yusuf Musa (0).

Some 164,000 members in 189 divisions participated in the polls.

Party top leadership have suspended the Tanah Merah and Kota Kinabalu divisions from participating today following internal objections.

This means for the three vice-president posts, the first three candidates to secure 63 votes will win the positions.

In this election, 95 candidates contested 25 Supreme Council seats, 10 candidates running for permanent deputy chairman and two candidates contesting for permanent chairman. – The Vibes, March 18, 2023
