PAS man slammed for likening women to items

PETALING JAYA: PAS’ Jabi assemblyman Azman Ibrahim has been criticised for comparing women to “items” after a woman was reportedly denied entry into a police station because of her attire.
In a Twitter post, Azman said “packaging plays an important part in marketing”, adding that “expensive items that are high in value will be packaged nicely”.
“If an item is sold uncovered by the roadside, it is likely a cheap imitation item,” said Azman, the Terengganu agriculture, food industry, plantation, commodity, and rural development committee chairman.
He was referring to a report in Sinar Harian which quoted Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman’s call to police to carry out their duties without prejudice and sexism.
Young Syefura, who was commenting on an incident last week in which a woman was barred from entering a police station in Kajang as she was said to be wearing shorts that allegedly did not cover her knees, urged police not to judge people by what they wore.
Azman’s post received numerous replies, with one Twitter user, @f15teen15, simply stating that “women are not items”.
A Twitter user with the handle @LilyZali asked how Azman could look at women in such a “lowly manner”.
“They are only to be used and labelled as items? You are a vile creature,” said @LilyZali.
Another Twitter user, @kurt_kuden, posted a Tweet from former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan, who said that it was the duty of the police to receive reports in “whatever situation”.
Yet another netizen, with the handle @sultanoftasik, said Azman’s comment was indicative of PAS’ view of women.
“This is what PAS has said from the beginning. Women have no place in PAS, they are just ‘items’. It is good if the community judges for itself how PAS works,” said @sultanoftasik.
Not surprising... stuck in the old mentality of women as of objects, either purely for fullfiling women's roles, or as objects for lust.

ReplyDeleteThey will always try to impose their religious values on minorities. PAS has a one dimentional view of things and for them, it is to impose their religious practices because they think they are allah's emissaries on earth; never mind that they cannot resolve Kelantan's water woes until 30 to 40 years time.
