PKR CONGRESS | Opposing views towards electoral pacts will likely take centre stage during the PKR congress this weekend.

PKR advisory council chairperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told reporters that there was no need to "take down the tent".

This was in response to PKR vice-president elect Rafizi Ramli urging party delegates to only vote for central leadership council candidates who are against the "big tent" strategy.

The so-called "big tent" strategy is being explored by some PKR leaders on an electoral pact against BN, which will likely involve having to work with Pejuang and Bersatu, which caused the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration in 2020.

"Big tent or not, there are pros and cons. Rafizi has opinions on this. For me, I'll evaluate the circumstances first.

"There's no need to take down the tent (now)," she said.

Later this morning, outgoing PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir - a staunch Rafizi ally - said the "big tent" approach was rejected by the grassroots.

In his address to the PKR Youth congress, he accused "big tent" proponents of prioritising government positions rather than policy.


"So far, the 'big tent' discussion is focused on who gets what position or who the (author of 'Malays easily forget' doesn't like.

"('Big tent') is talking about alliances with conditions. I apologise for saying this, but such endeavours will not bring results.

"Do not ape our opponents who are strategising all the time to avoid jail or are lobbying for positions and riches.

"Stop these useless plotting and instead use whatever time we have left on (policies) needed by the public," he said.
