PETALING JAYA: Villagers in Kedah have pleaded with the Raja Muda of Kedah to stop a Musang King durian plantation project that has been blamed for floods in Baling that displaced more than 1,000 people.

In a TikTok video, a villager in Kampung Iboi can be seen talking to the Raja Muda, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, who had visited the affected area.

The villager is heard pleading with the prince to stop the project. “I want to express my sadness and plead with Tuanku to stop the Musang King project. We want to hear the order from you to stop the project” a village representative said.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah expressed his grief over the floods that occurred in this district on Monday. He said he was shocked and saddened as it was the second incident after a tragedy in Gunung Jerai in August last year, Bernama reported.

He urged the villagers to be patient and hoped the state government would help provide accommodation for those who lost their homes. He also advised residents living near rivers and mountain areas to move immediately to safer locations if given early warning of floods and soil erosion.

“If there is heavy rain, listen to this early warning, please move, and if the police come to inform you to move, then please move,” he said.

The Raja Muda was accompanied by his consort, Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff, and their children, Tunku Zara Bahiyah and Tunku Sulaiman Badlishah.

The couple were given a briefing and inspected the location of a bridge in Kampung Iboi which had collapsed. They crossed the river using a Bailey bridge which was built today by the Public Works Department and army personnel.

They also presented cash donations and daily necessities to the affected families.
