Iran war: Tehran says Hormuz ‘security restored’ if US agrees to plan

  • Iran says if the United States accepts its demands “both security will be restored to the Strait of Hormuz and the negotiation process will begin in a short period of time”.
  • US President Donald Trump says the war on Iran will end “very soon one way or the other” warning Tehran will either make a deal or “the hammer” will come down.
  • Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says two crude oil tankers caught fire after hitting sea mines in Hormuz as Gulf nations condemn Friday’s attack on a Qatari LNG carrier.
  • Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says talks with mediators over a two-day plan to reopen the strait are ongoing and expressed hope the US has “enough sense to choose diplomacy“.

Yemeni government claims nearly 1,000 attacks against Houthis in 24 hours

A spokesman for Yemen’s government said armed forces carried out 951 strikes on “gatherings, movements, fortifications, sources of fire, vehicles and supply means” against the Houthis over the past 24 hours.

In a statement on X, the spokesman also said that 332 Houthi fighters and commanders were killed during fighting in “the fronts of Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda, and the southern and southwestern fronts”.

The spokesman added that 56 military vehicles and equipment were either destroyed or disabled.

The figures could not be independently verified.

Fighting was continuing in Taiz while engineering teams were clearing mines from recaptured areas in Al-Jawf governorate, which has become a new focal point in the conflict, he added.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis.

Consumers pay the price as US oil profits soar amid Iran war

US oil companies have earned more than $130bn in profits during the war on Iran, even as consumers pay much higher prices for key commodities, amid fears that Trump may renew fighting after this week’s midterm elections.

The estimate, released by The New York Times, is a conservative evaluation based on the performance of 51 large US oil and gas companies in the six months from April through September. By contrast, in the same period in 2025 – when the prices of oil were lower prior to the launch of the US-Israel war on Iran – they collectively earned less than $47bn.

But the gains come as burgeoning living costs are crushing consumers. Americans have spent an extra $150bn on petrol and diesel since the war on Iran began on February 28, according to an analysis by Brown University’s Climate Solutions Lab, which amounts to more than $1,150 per household.

The disparity has fuelled a political debate over who gains and who pays the price for the war.

“Crude producers gain from higher oil prices, while refiners capture exceptional margins as diesel and other fuel supplies tighten,” said Naser al-Tamimi, a fellow at the Institute for International Political Studies in Milan, Italy.

Additionally, “damage to Middle Eastern and Russian refineries, disrupted Strait of Hormuz shipments and sanctions-related trade frictions have intensified shortages”, while “relatively secure US facilities and access to discounted crude strengthen these gains”.

Trail of destruction after 10-day Israeli siege of Hebron

Israeli forces left a lot of destruction. Residents have been cleaning up since the early hours of the day at demolished buildings.

So it’s been an ordeal for them. More than 500 families were uprooted forcibly from their homes during the 10-day Israeli military operation. They didn’t know what they would be coming back to. The trauma of having to leave home is really what’s affecting them.

But Hebron is known for its solidarity and in the past two hours that we’ve been here, we’ve seen people rally together and help in the cleanup. They’ve organised a cookout so they can distribute food to those cleaning and trying to salvage whatever they can.

Palestinian people are pledging that they will only buy from businesses in this affected neighbourhood to help it recover after 10 days of siege, vandalism and closure.
