Chinese voters frustrated with DAP highlights unfulfilled promises, warns Sin Chew boss

IN AN editorial published in Sin Chew Daily, Group Editor-in-Chief Dato’ Kuik Cheng Kang highlighted growing dissatisfaction among Chinese voters towards DAP, using the party’s recent analysis of its performance in Malaysian politics.
Kuik pointed out that DAP’s complete wipeout in the Sabah state election, winning zero seats, reflects not only rising local consciousness in East Malaysia but also Chinese voters venting frustration at the ballot box, particularly their disappointment with the party.
He argued that unfulfilled PH election promises, heavily promoted during opposition years, including UEC recognition, toll abolition, Lynas plant closure, and the Teoh Beng Hock case, continue to haunt DAP, with circulating online videos of past pledges fueling resentment.
Kuik described DAP as facing a “life-and-death” juncture, noting the leadership’s six-month deadline to deliver feasible promises and quell dissatisfaction among reform supporters, warning that failure, especially if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim does not deliver, will make the road tougher.
He cautioned that Peninsular Chinese voters’ loyalty cannot be taken for granted despite “green wave” fears, amid potential shifting alliances before the next general election.
Finally, Kuik stressed DAP must adopt humility, face the public sincerely, and address issues transparently to turn the tide, emphasising that without Anwar’s support on promises, the party’s challenges will intensify. —Dec 14, 2025
