Baby dies in flooded Gaza tent; Israeli attack kills woman in Jabalia

• A baby girl whose family is displaced by the genocide has died overnight in a flooded tent as fierce weather conditions persist. “It kept raining, and the cold was getting worse. Suddenly, I found my little baby motionless, dead,” the infant’s mother told Al Jazeera.
• An Israeli attack on northern Gaza has killed at least one woman and wounded others, emergency workers have told Al Jazeera.
• UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese says thousands of Palestinians have been left to freeze and starve in Gaza as Storm Byron hits and the unstoppable “nightmare” continues.

Here’s a quick look at the latest developments:

• An infant girl died of the cold overnight in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people are left with nothing but flimsy tents to protect them as Storm Byron approaches.
• The Israeli military attacked the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing at least one woman and injuring several others. Israeli shelling hit Khan Younis in the south as well.
• US envoy Mike Waltz visited the Rafah crossing and claimed that over 600 trucks of aid are entering Gaza per day. UN and international agencies said resources remain dangerously low while Gaza’s Government Media Office said no more than 234 trucks per day entered on average since the October 10 ceasefire.
• Israeli special forces surrounded a house inside the Old City of Nablus and arrested a young Palestinian man, one of several raids today across the occupied West Bank.
• Israeli forces blew up another building in southern Lebanon’s town of Meiss el-Jabal.

Hamas calls on mediators to pressure Israel to allow entry of shelter materials

Hamas blames Israel for the “tragic conditions” Palestinians in Gaza are enduring due to the ongoing blockade of materials to secure shelters.

“We call on mediators and guarantors to pressure the occupying government to allow the entry of necessary shelter materials and to open the Rafah crossing in both directions,” the Palestinian group said.

Hamas said Israel was “reneging on its commitments under the ceasefire agreement”.

One way in which Israel denies displaced Palestinians an opportunity to secure their flimsy tents, now threatened by wind and more rain, is by refusing to allow in poles, referring to them as a “dual-use” item which could be used beyond civilian needs.

Paper and pens are also not allowed to enter Gaza due to also being classified as “dual-use”.
