Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said PAS has once again shown that it remains trapped in playing with outdated and extreme political rhetoric.

PETALING JAYA
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has slammed a PAS Youth delegate for labelling the fatal sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, last month as divine retribution from God.

Sharif Azhari, a delegate at the PAS Youth muktamar, reportedly claimed that the sinkhole may have been linked to

what the federal territories minister has done
with land in the city centre while debating a motion criticising DAP’s purported interference with Islamic matters.

No one should exploit the sinkhole tragedy, or any tragedy for that matter, to attack their political opponents,
the DAP leader said in a post on X.

He said that Sharif, as a young politician, should instead embrace a new kind of politics – one that fosters healthy competition and plays a role in providing checks and balances on the government.

Unfortunately, PAS has once again shown that it remains trapped in playing with outdated and extreme political rhetoric.

Yesterday, FMT reported that social media users slammed the Machang PAS Youth member, asking whether the frequent floods in the PAS-led state of Kelantan were also a form of divine retribution.

One user quipped:

(When) it affects them, they call it a test from God. When it affects others, they call it retribution.

Another X user said this is why it’s impossible to win an argument or debate with religious people.

Any which way is also God’s will.

Some also questioned whether the unresolved water supply issues in Kelantan was also divine retribution.

Meanwhile, other netizens slammed the PAS man for politicising the sinkhole incident, which led to the disappearance of Indian national Vijayaletchumy, 48, whose remains have yet to be recovered in the sewage system under the city.

Facebook user Azmi Yusuff lamented that politicians like Sharif wanted to politicise everything. Others urged the PAS man to apologise for his insensitive statement.
