PN assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin is alleged to have claimed that former finance minister Lim Guan Eng did not allocate RM20 million to the Penang Bumiputera Development Council, as was done by the previous BN administration.

PETALING JAYA
Lim Guan Eng is suing Perikatan Nasional assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin over the latter’s claim that he did not allocate funds to the Penang Bumiputera Development Council when he was finance minister.

The suit against the Taman Medan assemblyman was filed at the sessions court here last month.

Lim contends that Afif’s remarks, made during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign, were

false
and were made maliciously to gain cheap publicity.

Afif allegedly said that during Lim’s tenure as finance minister from 2018 to 2020, he did not allocate RM20 million to the council, as was done by the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

Lim claimed that Afif’s statement – published on Facebook and YouTube – implied that he was not a responsible minister and never cared about the Bumiputera community in Penang.

He added that Afif was not remorseful and had refused to apologise, despite Lim issuing a letter of demand.

Lim is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages as well as an injunction against Afif.

The sessions court fixed Oct 24 for case management.
